Trouble with Ku Signals on 10ft Mesh Bud

I'm late to this thread, but I get amazing Ku reception on my 10' KTI. The factors I dealt with are: PLL Ku LNB in the dual polorotor, adjusting the LNBF in or out of the ring, skewing the polorotor and the final piece was the elevation actuator I put in 2 years ago. It also really helps that I...

    New 24" Actuator

Sorry, just saw this. I got mine from Amazon Canada but they don't list it anymore. I ended up trading it away when I restored a 30+ year old 24" Venture which was a twin to my Venture. I liked having a spare twin. I still have the small actuator from Windy Nation that I use for elevation. I...

    Polorotor Help?

Make sure to use a shielded wire with a drain connected to your mover' ground. I used regular CAT 5 for bench testing but had some weird groaning coming from the servo and it wasn't accurate in switching polarities. I switched it to shielded with a drain wire and the issue went away. Even 10...

    5G Vulnerability

Thanks - Yes, that's the luck so far, I guess. Some further reading found that they are all using 3.5Ghz, outside of C Band, but they are exploring future 3.8+Ghz. Really, there are a ton of spectrum allotments, but 3.5Ghz is the closest to anything I care about. Reading all about the new 5G...

    5G Vulnerability

I've read about some of your experiences with 5G interference and trying to figure out my luck in the matter. I live 700ft from a cell tower that is 80 or so degrees to the right of my due south position, so the tower is not down-range of any satellite I would be aimed at. I was thinking that...

Just put up my dish 4feet with polar mount

It looks great - but as a guy who went from a 2ft to a 4ft to a 7.5ft to a 10ft, I have to say that all the cool parts that you're using or planning to use on a small dish will perform much better on a 10 footer. Generally, an offset dish will outperform a prime focus for Ku and a bigger dish...

Cspan analog NTSC channel is going to disappear

Just white text on a blue background saying that CSPAN will cease November 1 on <wrong satellite name>. I would disagree and say that CSPAN has already ceased. Last analog channel. I'll miss the sparkles.

Troubleshooting signal loss at certain times of day - C/N margin

Is this a shiny white fiberglass dish or a matt black mesh? Can you take a picture of the sun and shadows on the dish at both times of outages?

Troubleshooting signal loss at certain times of day - C/N margin

How about LNB drift in the hottest part of the day? I see that it is 31c (88f)every day this week in "Central Texas".

    Salvaged Venture 24" Actuator

I just drilled a hole in my newer motor's drive shaft to accomondate the pin and now the old actuator is on the newer motor and all are swappable. By swapping the parts as I have them, the newer motor slack does not affect the older actuator and the newer actuator slack is taken away from the...

    Salvaged Venture 24" Actuator

Cool. I just looked up a rolled pin and see the reason it was used. You can put it in and then punch it to expand it into a tight fit. Makes sense.

    Salvaged Venture 24" Actuator

Last week I took down a pretty old Venture 24" actuator that hasn't moved in the last 25 years. I don't know how old it actually is (early 80's?) but I am amazed at how similar it is to my 5 year old Venture 24". The old fiberglass dish and the arm sitting fully retracted for 25 years I took...

    Elevation / Declination Azimuth diagram

I could barely read it when I was using it. It is a transparent GIF and depending on the background it is legible or not. It works in this post for me but if I open the GIF as a file on my mac it is pixelated garbage. I'm going to make screen shot and resave it It really did save me a bunch...

    Elevation / Declination Azimuth diagram

We are entering the next solar outage period - starting around October 8th or so. With the sun running on the same arc as the geostationary satellites for about a week, it is a great time to see which satellites are in your view and what might be blocking certain positions. I also have a clear...

    Elevation / Declination Azimuth diagram

I just wanted thank whoever posted this image here originally It really helped me tweak my dish for the whole arc Ku after I just did some over adjusting. Specifically, I didn't adjust anything else except Declination once I knew saw the picture and compared my situation. CBand was not...

Can someone help identify this 10-ft dish?

I was referring to the mount's moving parts getting loosened up with penetrating oil. The Unimesh dish mount hadn't moved in 25 years and all moving parts were seized. The dish itself just needed some soapy water and a deck brush to get it cleaned up. All the bolts holding the panels together...

Can someone help identify this 10-ft dish?

I soaked my moving parts in a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Look it up - the best penetrating oil ever. Those that were too big to fit in a container were brushed liberally with the mix. It works so good and so fast.

Elevation Actuator - New Actuator(s) Part II

Take a few pictures of the back of the mount and post it here. Perhaps some extra eyes can suggest mounting points. If you have a measuring tape extended to around 7 inches in the picture, it will help give perspective.

Elevation Actuator - New Actuator(s) Part II

Here it is on Amazon.ca This model extends 2" I think it was 6.25" total length when retracted I needed it to be extended 3/4" to be in the sweet spot and any change in elevation is 1 or 2 clicks up or down.

Elevation Actuator - New Actuator(s) Part II

It's about the same noise level but quite a bit faster than the Venture. I'm really glad I took a chance on buying the Windynation actuator. It was a big price difference and the quality was much better than I expected. I had thought it would be one of the cheap knockoff QARL models, not a...

Elevation Actuator - New Actuator(s) Part II

Agreed. Adding this tiny actuator has been amazing to make an instant tweak. I have since upgraded the power supply to make up for the 100ft distance.

FCC Replacing BUD for those with protected status.

I just googled Cband 5G filter. I have no idea how this metal brick is going to fit in the nose cone along with the Corotor. Damn!
