1/12 Uplink Activity

Any indication whether they will have MPEG4 headers or perhaps be MPEG2 national feeds?

LA and NYC are different than the other HD lil because there is both a fake mpeg4 channel type, and a mpeg2 channel type for each. They both point to the same video stream.

Boston, Chicago, and Alberquerque all have "real" mpeg4 channel types and actually transmit in mpeg4.

LA and NYC are also still spanning two TPs, the local FOX is on a different TP than the ABC, CBS, NBC. The mpeg4 locals have all 4 channels on one TP.

Also to add, all the HD lil now have EPG data and the proper channel names in the 63xx range, with the exception of alberquerque, which doesnt have channel names yet.

Universal HD now has EPG data as well. It is only transmitting at 129.

Thanks, Rich, that is good info. Sounds like distant national feeds may become available to folks that are still waiting for new MPEG4 receiver upgrades!

Thanks John, BTW I should be back to the uplink game next week. thanks for all your help as it is appreciated. and dont be a stranger around here. :) Its enjoyable having the godfather of uplink activity in the house :)

Heh, maybe by 2015. Remember, the HD channels are only abc, nbc, fox, cbs. Shutting off 4 SD channels only gives them room for at most 1 mpeg4 HD channel. :(

1)4 channels for now, I'm betting there will also be WB and PBS when the spotbeams are up. Notice the channel spacing...4 channels, 2 empty, 4 channels, 2 empty, ect. (Of course, the channel numbers don't matter much since any receiver that can get them will reassign to the local channel.

2)6 SD channels x 48 markets= 72 MPEG4 HD channels = 12 more markets x 6 SD channels = 18 MPEG4 HD channels = 3 more markets. And that doesn't include the savings by switching the SD channels to MPEG4 too.

3)2015! My bet is they will start it at the OTA analog cutoff, if not sooner.

4)It's no coincidence that the 411s/211s (supposedly the new "base" receivers) output HD and SD simultaniously. If everyone can see the HD locals (even non-HD customers), there's no reason to put up the SD versions.
So many people still fail to see the big picture...it is in DISH's interest to switch EVERYTHING to MPEG4. The market will drive the switch, but DISH will do everything they can to move it along. The faster HD sets take root, the faster people will upgrade themselves to MPEG4 receivers.
