Questions on 110/119 Signal Strength on 811

I decided to check the signal strength on my 811, as I thought either 110 or 119 was giving a stronger signal. Below are the readings this morning, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Are all the zeros normal? I was thinking of adjusting the dish a bit, but didn't noticed any signal weaknesses consistent on 110 or 119. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks, are your SSF readings on a 811?

And I wonder if I could tweak my dish to get stronger signals that I posted above, and cut down the picture freezes I get once in awhile.

Oops, sorry my readings are from a 311, I didn't see the 811. Then you are in good shape, your signals are even better than mine.

One thing you can do is to push the dish with your fingers up or down, left or right without touching the bolts and see if you get better readings. I doubt that you'll get better readings tough.

Because on the 811's the signal bar goes up to 100. In the 311's, the bar goes up to 125. So if we look at my lowest signal 92, it will be equivalent to 74 in your 811.

I don't know what 811 you're looking at but the signal bar goes upto 125 on all my 811's. Upper 80's/lower 90's is a good signal. You may be able to get it a little better but it really wont make any difference other than possibly reducing rainfade slightly.

I don't have a 811, I was looking at the manual on the Dishnetwork site and I confused the local digital channel meter, it goes to 100. Sorry.

Then your readings can be improved. Here is a tip I got from someone else:

Tip: before messing with the dish - carefully use a marking pen or pencil to mark where you are starting from - just in case you end up throwing it completely out of whack. Also, try pushing against the dish in each direction, BEFORE you even loosen any bolts.

1. You'll see if there is too much play in the setup.
2. If there is a little play - and you are listening to your signal meter - you may get an indication of which way to go.
3. Tweak. Listen for pitch - of the test tone - higher better - lower worse.

Hope that helps.

If your not getting rain fade or having a signal problem, why would you try to re-aim your dish?
It's not like it wil make your 811 run cooler.... :D

"If it aint broke, don' t fix it. "

ride525,

I would try to peak the dish and get better readings. As for rain fade, even with my readings I lost the signal twice this past winter. It was coming down like I'd never seen it in years and it was for a few seconds.

What I would do is, before you loosen any nuts and bolts on the dish, simply flex the pan left/right and up/down and watch your meter. See which way to go before you loosen things. Make slow, small adjustments! By the time the signal goes 22k miles just being off an inch is miles and miles off.
