Junior QB Bret Meyer will lead ISU into its season opener vs. Toledo on Aug. 31.

AMES, Iowa -Mediacom will telecast live Iowa State’s football season opener against Toledo on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7:07 p.m. from Jack Trice Stadium. The game will be shown on the Connections Channel, which is channel 22 in much of Iowa. In addition, the game will be simulcast live on Fox Sports.com for those outside of the state of Iowa. The telecast is part of a continuing working relationship between Mediacom and Iowa State athletics to help promote and market Cyclone athletics to the residents of Iowa.

“It is somewhat precedence setting to receive permission to create this in-state TV coverage for Cyclone football under current Big 12 football television agreements,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “The outstanding cooperation between the Big 12, Fox Sports, and Mediacom is the reason this telecast is being made possible.”

In addition to televising the Cyclones’ football season opener, Mediacom is sponsoring the Mediacom Cyclone Capital Classic basketball games this season. The ISU men play host to 2006 NCAA “Sweet Sixteen” participant Bradley in Des Moines’ Wells-Fargo Arena on Dec. 16. The ISU women basketball team will play St. Louis before the men’s game. Times have not yet been determined.

Mediacom will also televise five Iowa State men’s basketball games during the 2006-07 season to supplement the Big 12 and Cyclone Network packages. Nearly the entire slate of ISU men’s basketball games this winter will be televised in the state. Mediacom is also negotiating with Iowa State to create a slate of women’s basketball games for telecast this season, and it has also scheduled a 30-minute Iowa State football preview show for distribution. Broadcast arrangements – carriers and times – for those ventures will be announced soon.

“We have always appreciated Mediacom’s efforts to bring Iowa State athletics to our fans around the state,” Iowa State head football coach Dan McCarney said. “We’ve sold a record number of season tickets for 2006 and fans will enjoy a first-class night of college football on Aug. 31, whether it is in person or at home. Mediacom has made a real investment in Iowa State athletics that goes across all sports. We recognize and appreciate those efforts.”

Lastly, Iowa State’s 2005 regular-season football schedule is being re-broadcast Tuesday through Thursday on the Mediacom Connections Channel. A schedule of the games is listed below:

Tuesday, Aug. 15 – Illinois State (6:30 p.m.), Iowa (7:30 p.m.), at Army (8:30 p.m.), at Nebraska (9:30 p.m.) and Baylor (10:30 p.m.)
