211K and 1080P

Santa brought a late gift yesterday. We bought a new LCD TV and it has 1080P capabilities. I saw someone here mention about downloading a movie in 1080P from dish. I have a 211K connected to the new TV. I know presently the 211K does not support 1080P right now. Is the addition of 1080P to the 211K just a firmware change or would it involve a hardware upgrade?

Edit 1: I just went to the Dish web site. I saw that "Video on Demand" can provide movies in 1080P. So I am guessing that 1080P on a normal satellite channel is possible but is not available. I guess this would be a limitation of the compression used to transmit the signal from the satellite.

Receiver needs an internal hard drive in order to download movies. The 211k does not have a hard drive so VOD will not work with it.

Will it work with an external hard dive? I added HDs to both of my 211Ks a month ago.

Edit 1: I just saw my question answered in another thread. No it won't work.
