In the past, I've posted about using a 7" LCD for outdoor tune-up of FTA, and a scan converter to use any spare LCD.

Today, we have a 22" 1080p (yes, "P", 1920x1080) LCD TV with digital OTA tuner, for the same purpose.
I was in my local Radio Shack (that place we malign so much here), and it was back on sale.
I took one home: $199 through tomorrow.
AOC® L22H998 22" LCD HDTV

edit: the OTA tuner is adequate for decent signals.
So, after using it for FTA tune-up, you can watch FTA channels -and- some local OTA! -
HDMI, Svideo, Component, composite, and DB-15 VGA inputs.

My neighbor has that exact make and model. He got his from Office Depot for about $30 more. I guess it could come in handy for tuning OTA antennas as well...

As for Rat Shack, I guess its kind of a love-hate relationship :) ...

22 inch HDTV monitor... just seems weird. Guess you could use it on a desk or kitchen...but even in the kitchen could you really tell the difference between SD and HD on such a small screen. Would work perfect for dish tuning though!

Well, in a previous thread, I described a (coincidentally) 22" LCD computer monitor (1680x1050) connected through a cheap scan converter, to handle SD video.
It was an improvement over a 7" composite-input LCD with unknown (but low) resolution, for FTA tune-up.
When not using either for tuning the dishes, I tried hooking 'em up through a DTV converter box as a poor-man's bedroom TV.
The 7" barely let you monitor a show... the 22" let you see it, but the picture was fuzzy.
So, the answer is YES, the new 1920x1080p picture is superior for OTA viewing, HD FTA viewing, and equally razor sharp for simple FTA tuning. - ;)
Is it overkill? Yes, but considering the dual-purpose role, I'm happy.

edit:
Actually, I got the idea from Stogie.
He described a nice dual-role LCD last year, and I guess the idea has been rattling around ever since. :)

you too huh? ;)

Yup... I go there for the clearance deals, and I did get that great deal on the SiliconDust HD Homerun tuners last BF...

As for HD on a 22", I can definitely see a difference between 480p, 720p, and 1080p on my Sammy 26" that I use as a second monitor on my PC for HD. Its not as striking as it is on my main 46" set, but its a difference ;) ...
