OK, so 4DTV units do not work with DiSEqC and the Powertech GBOX V3000 does not work with 4DTV units.

Does anyone have any ideas (or know of a device) that would make the 2 work together - maybe an IR Convertor that would take the IR Code from a 4DTV Remote Control unit, convert it to Powertech GBOX V3000 codes and retransmit it to the GBOX?

Any ideas? PSmith, you're always good at out of the box thinking....

None i am aware of, maybe a top of the line remote that can learn codes or is programmable with a usb cable like a harmony remote. You could just use the gbox to move dish.
Is your 4dtv's motor controls dead or do you have a dsr905?

Could you explain why you want to do that?

Your 4DTV unit should control the linear actuator motor without the GBox V3000.

The GBox comes with its own remote control. So you can just use the GBox to move the actuator. No need for DiSEqC in your 4dTV receiver.

However, if you want to use your non-4DTV (i.e. a DVB MPEG) receiver to control the GBox, then you will need to have the DiSEqC 1.2 capability in your receiver. That is how the two devices communicate with each other.

Which 4DTV unit? A 922 or 920 will move the dish by itself.
If you have one of those, I see no need for a Gbox.
Unless I'm missing something here.

The only one would be a 905 as the 920/922 have it built in

The 905 wouldnt work with a gbox as it doesnt have DIseqc capabilities. If you use a 905 then get either a analog box to move the dish by itself or a DVB box to hook to the GBox

What of the 4DTV ir would you convert?
I am presuming you are marrying a dvb box to your 4DTV system and want to have them share control over the Powertech. Right off, I cant see it, but ya never know.
The most straightfoward means is to have one "in control" and the other less than "single command" automated. That's what I do, even on less of a scale, because I dont use the DiSEqC features on my V-Box. It always takes 2 remotes to move to and see a different bird. Kind of a pain sometimes, but worth it for the versatility.
I elected to go this way as opposed to the 922 controlling the dish because there are times you want the 4DTV to stay in a particular location when you change to a different satellite map. The 922 does control the polarotor.

Simple. The Channel Numbers would clearly work on the 4DTV. The Satellite would transcode to the GBox V3000 and move the dish accordingly.

Why would I want this?

I have a Nextcom R5000HD in my HD201 which can record HD of the 4DTV channels to Hard Drive. That needs to have control of the dish via its PVR. It sends out a code to the 922 when the program starts to move the dish to the proper orbital position, thus i need something that will transcode a 4DTV orbital position to a GBox on the fly.

merged threads together

Unfortunately, few read the 4DTV thread that might have a solution to this - where more probably read the FTA General topics which is why I posted the question in all appropiate threads.

With a unique issue like this, I felt I needed to put it in all appropiate forums.

Sorry if this is frowned upon. Please delete post 2 and 3.

Is the goal to drive 1 BUD with 2 receivers: 4DTV and FTA w/ GBox?

It would seem because otherwise the 922 could handle moving the dish. The Nextcom software can send the satellite code before the recording, and one can program in a delay for the dish to move.

I'm vaguely doing something similar because I recently added a 920 with the Nextcom mod to a DVB FTA system. I had already been using Sage, so I just have one of my DVB units move the dish. It's a bit of a kludge, but I'm going to rewrite the Network Encoders for Linux and that will solve all the problems for me.

In his explaination for why he didnt mention a DVB/FTA as part of the system so I am at a loss as to why the need for the G-Box, if the system will already position the dish via the 922. Maybe the 922 dish drive system has failed?
I dunno, guess there is some method to his madness:confused:
