Have a friend with a 522. He wants to avoid the 6 buck DVR fee. Can E turn off just recording, while leaving receiver active?

if so does pause still work?

he is a real cheapskate!

at one time E was supposed to create a DVR disable function, after all they could do it all the way back to the legacy dishplayer. That box had pause as standard equiptement, record was a extra fee

Bob,

The Legacy Dishplayer was a joint project between Microsoft and Dish Network. The software for recording and WebTV was written by Microsoft for those functions and since they wanted revenue for those functions they also had code in the software for being able to disable functions without being paid for them.
