I have the 722 will this receiver pas the 5.1 stereo i have not been able to get it to. I have a Vizio 5.1 sound bar system and my Roku will pass 5.1 but i cannot get the 722 to do it unless there is a hidden menu. and the 722 and the Roku are connected to the tv then to the sound bar

A large majority of televisions do not pass through 5.1 audio. How sure are you that your TV is one that does?

like i said the roku dose and the dvd player dose and it is in the Vizio tv spec that it will.

let me rephrase this everything hooked to my Vizio tv and sound bar get 5.1 stereo but the 722. I have tried it with the optical cable going straight to the sound bar
it still DOES not work. so i ask again are there a hidden menu that i need to adjust something are will these receivers do 5.1 stereo.

Which Optical to sound bar...the 722's or the TV's? If TV's, it won't pass 5.1 (only the TV tuner itself will, not peripherals) . 722 optical out needs to go to sound bar directly.

LIke i said before the Roku is passing it that way and my Fta receiver is passing that way and it still did not work hooked straight to the sound bar/.

What make and model is your TV?

If it does pass >stereo, I suspect that KAB is on the right track in post #8.

I have a Vizio 5.1 soundbar, with no HDMI input and use optical from it to the TV. My VIP 612 passes dolby digital to it. At one time TV's did not pass 5.1 over optical from the HDMI sources but that has changed. My LG TV about 2 years old and my Samsung TV new both will pass 5.1 over optical.

Are you sure the programming you are watching is in 5.1 on the 722? Very little daytime programming is, not many OTA sub channels are even much other programming is not. When you are watching on the Roku is 5.1 always indicated or only for programs that really are? One other thing, I do think sometimes ARC will not pass it. You might try a different HDMI cable from the 722 to the TV, especially the one the Roku is using since you feel that is passing 5.1.

I have the Vizio E601l3EKPB and i know it passes 5.1 because it doing it with my other equipment.I have changed all the cables and everything else i could think of that is the reason i asked if there were a hidden menu that i need ed to set something else are if there was something wrong with this 722
