Well...I have a different use in mind for the USB port on my 942. I have more heat build-up than I'd like with all my A/V components on my Sony stand, and I recently found a nice small, quiet USB-powered cooling fan to help move air across the tops of my gear. Does anyone know if the 942's USB port on the back of the unit is "powered"..i.e. does it throw out that small amount of voltage needed to power one of these tiny fans? Thanks for any help you can offer!

I would say yes. The USB 2.0 standard requires that the host connection send power to the device. USB cables use one set of red and black power wires for the voltage and a twisted pair for the data. Get a voltage meter and test it out.
