a few questions

So, me and my wife got a system from a friend for very cheap because he was moving
well, my wife is thai and I wanted to get the thai FTA channel
so we got the traxis dbs2500 and I couldnt get it set up on my own
do I need to order a satellite finder?
I live in Idaho so that might make it harder
when I lived in Oklahoma it was a piece of cake, but here...

also on the traxis i cant seem to find "Telstar 5"
Could it be listed as something else
and if not what options do I have ?

See the town I live in has 2,500 people and no instalers so my options are VERY limited
what would you reccomend?

My wife is gettin quite anxious as this was supposed to be her birthday present Feb 23
she is starting to suspect that I am not very smart....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome!

You didn’t list where in Idaho you were, so I picked Boise for the location so I kind of know where you need to aim it.
T5 might be listed as “IntelSat America 5” or “IA5” You might be able to add the satellite.

What I came up with using Boise is
Dish elevation 36
Azimuth 153 (136 with magnetic azimuth)
Skew of -18.4 (clockwise)

You can put in your city and it will give you the info. Remember to subtract 15-17 off azimuith.

I have never worked with the Traxis, so I don’t know exactly how to program it. Hopefully someone here can help out.

What channel are you trying to get? I know you mentioned the Thai channel, but I don’t know which one that is : )

Only thing you might want to get is a compass

The you stand behind the dish to aim it if straight south is 6:00, the dish should look near 4:00

yeah I think I may need to add a satellite (IA5) to my Traxis and realy hope to hear from someone who knows how...

I just checked Lyngsat and they both were there....

There is a list of about 50 satellites none of them are IA5 or IntelSat America 5

TVT is on 12152 H 2000

The Traxis you have to program the info in to receive the program
The frequency is 12177
The Polarity is Vertical
The Symbol Rate is 23000

I got the dish set up using a compass and thought i had it , but when I went to the satellite instalation menu screen there was no "Telstar 5" to select

well actualy my ZIP is 83467 and your link said no instalers were available in my ariea
I would prefer to pay someone to do this, but I am so isolated in my small town...

also, I can use ANY of the listed satellites to pick up IA5?

Any Satellite name will work, there should be an IA-5 or T5 listed (I do not have one setup) Sorry there are no installers in your area, I never checked. I just give these links out as there are members here who do not post and hopefully it will help them : )

This is a great resource for people just starting to figure out FTA
and the benifits of having access to foreign language stations

As I understand many people are being charged a lot of money
to recieve programming from their native countries..

Glad to help!

Very true, some people are paying $15 a month for one "International" channel as an example. Then there are the lucky ones with FTA satellite channels from their own homeland.

If you do a search here for Traxis you may come across a few good hints and tips. The Traxis has one of the best pictures I have seen on ANY receiver. (side by side comparison test's)
