I have read in several places the need for ac-3 audio. Is this something that is handled by most receivers or is this something extra? Could someone please explain to me how it works?

Thanks!!!

Your DVB receiver only passes through an AC3 audio signal. It will not decode it. You will need some kind of AV receiver (like maybe a boombox) with an SPDIF or coaxual audio output to decode the AC3 signal. Some DVB receivers don't do a passthrough for AC3. Hopefully yours does. If you don't have a stereo receiver at home that does AC3, go to Wally World and get a cheap one.

Or if you have a DVB card, in some software modes can decrypt that AC3 audio output via you PC. I do it daily! by watching The TUBE of course on AMC3!!!

You could also use a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Extigy external sound card.. Hook this between your DVB receiver and stereo.. Check out the review in the review area..
