How long does an actuator usually last?
Mine is a 6 year old Venture 24" Maxi.
I bought this from Satellite Distributors in
Columbia, TN 7-2010.
It has got a lot of use in the past week with my
trying to get the Titanium ASC1 working. Possibly
my driving it to the East and then hitting the East
button again has caused it to fail. Of course I am guessing.
A tech would just probably fix the actuator.

Assuming I need a new one what are your recommendations.
Who should I get it from and how much should a new one
cost?

I bought mine from Venture Mfg Co. 18 months ago and have had no problems. I paid $215 with shipping included for a 36 inch ball screw.

Perhaps the dish has just moved beyond its limits, and you just have to reset the limits.

I have several actuators over 25 years old. Just depends on the quality of the build, dish weight, load distribution, environment ( such as wind loading, marine salts, etc), maintenance and amount of usage.

With that said, I would expect much more than 6 years from the Venture Maxi. Have you connected a 12volt battery directly to the actuator m1/m2 terminals to see if the motor or drive has failed?

For one thing I had the ASC1 wired wrong. One ground in the wrong place.
Other than that I'm also guessing.

We spent about 1.5 hours on the phone yesterday afternoon reviewing the wiring and going through the menus. I believe that a soft limit setting was causing the challenges. We discussed to importance of setting the mechanical limit switches on the actuator and how to determine if the feedhorn was installed with correct orientation to the polar axis.

Today we are scheduled to talk again and review the skew settings and start receiving programming.

Enjoyed talking with shanklej and his wife. Looking forward to helping him learn how to program the new receiver and ASC1 to provide access to their favorite programming once again.
