i have read all i can seem to find , but am still a little confused. i have , a 33 inch dish [ no motor ] . i have read that the lnb freq. for this bird is 10750. transponder 11735 . i have the pointing info. however , from reading , some have said a standard lnb should be used , and then obviously no totation is possible. others said i should use a universal lnb with a slight [ 2.5 degree ] rotation . i am near toronto . i am most patient when i am aiming , but , nothing frosts me more than having incorrect settings , and then being frustrated at not getting a signal . i really want to make sure all settings are correct . i know i am going to need all my patience to get g18 [ my next bird...again , still looking ! ] . if this info is out there , please point it out . thanks in advance , and i hope this doesn't seem too newbie or repetitive .

You need to set the Receiver's LNB Freq setting to "your" LNB, Satellites don't have an LNB Freq setting.
Look on your LNB for the exact info, may look like:
9750/10600
or
10750

amc9

Hello beer4me
I have 5 linear ku band dishes set up at my house. All of them have standard lnbf.
I get both AMC9 and GALAXY 18.

To get AMC9 I have a good idea where in the sky I should be pointing my dish. On the receiver I set my lnb to standard then lnb frequency to 10750 (because I use a standard lnbf)
Then I set my transponder frequency 12140 or 12160 both strong tp’s for me.
Then set the lnb skew. Then I would work a grid pattern left to right or what works for you then up or down 1/16 at a time making sure I am not standing in front of the dish as I did my search pattern. I have found lots of satellites doing this. Once I have AMC9 tuned in and skew adjusted I would try for 11735 tp or do a blind scan or channel scan. If I were to get galaxy 18 I would set my lnb to standard then my lnb freq 10750 then my tp freq to 11800 some my use 11805 I believe. Then do the same as for amc9. Lots and lots of patience is the big think with this hobby.

That's good information. For me I like to point to the strong encrypted birds, in this case Nimiq 4 & work my way away from there. Like AMC 3 & G 28 I would go to Nimiq 1 & work my way E.

thanks.

wow ! thanks guys . that gives me what i was hoping for . i'm going north for the weekend , and , i will play . [ as long as i get my honey do list done . i'll get back to you as to how i made out . thanks , i appreciate the help. :up

AMC 9

Something else I forgot was I take my receiver and a TV right out to the dish for the set up.
AURIC’s way of using a strong satellite is a good one.

found it .

i have been away for a while , but , thanks to your help , i was able to get amc9 . i do appreciate the help . now , for g18 !!!!!:)

Beer,

Don't be too surprised if you lose the signal from AMC 9 from time to time. I have set up several receivers (Coolsat 5000, Fortec Star Dynamic and AZBox Premium) and several antennas (76 cm, 1.0 M and 1.2 M) and The RTN TP 11.735 H seems to always be problematic for me, no matter what I do.

There was an interference problem from LEO-1 at one time, but I think that has gone away. Now, I cannot explain it, but I am always falling weak on this TP. Once in a while I will be up near 87% quality, but most often, I find the quality right near the threshold for all my receivers to retain a signal lock.

Basically I just wish to forewarn you so that you can prepare for some weird responses in the event that they might occur.

Hopefully, you will not find any problems, but if you do, remember that you are not alone. It might prove frustrating.

Another one I like is AMC 21 @ 125W. There is HD on ther & HD Feeds from time to time. Also If you want to look for Galaxy 18 it could be a good one to search feeds someday. There's nothing wrong with having the location plugged into your receiver.

me too.

i found it using a starchoice dish , and am getting the same evening fade . i am going to buy a 100 cm dish . it won't hurt , and , maybe even a motor . thanks for the heads up .

starchoice dish isnt it a 100 cm dish?or 1 m.
They may issue 1M dishes in NF, but the only Starchoice dishes I know of are the 60cm and the 75cm.
As far as I know they are all just the Channel Master/Andrew molds. (60e, 65e, 70e, 75e, 84e)

Alot of the SC dishes I find for sale are 75e dishes

I have a 1m Starchoice dish. It's a Winegard Ds3101 with Starchoice painted on it. The guy I bought it from special ordered it "to get signal through leaves" They're rare but they do exist
