An Ethernet Based Receiver?

You are aware that the linked product is only for cable TV and not ATSC over the air?

I was getting all excited until I read the fine print at the bottom after your post... (HDHomeRun PRIME is not not compatible with antennas, satellite TV (DirecTV/Dish Network), or IPTV services such as AT&T U-Verse.)

The new HDHR-4 is coming out later this year and will have a new tuner in it; it may have 1 Gbps as well. Have to wait and see.

Actually I was just in the process of determining the difference between an ATSC signal and the US digital cable TV standard. Do any STBs output the US digital cable signal? I have not had to learn that technology as I have only needed to connect the HDMI.

These devices are tuners that have only IP outputs. None output RF (NTSC, QAM or ATSC) or AV (HDMI, composite, component).

Silicon Dust offers several models supporting various types of tuners including ATSC, QAM (free and CableCard) DVBT, DVBC, etc.

Actually I am interested in the input. Both US cable TV and ATSC use a standard RF input connector. ATSC tunes channels every so many Mhz. I am not sure what the technology is behind that RF input for a Digital US cable TV connection as I have never had Digital US cable before. Then the next question would be: Could a satelite box/card output a signal that emulates that signal to be used as an input for the HDHomerun. I suspect it is just better that I wait for the ATSC/ClearQAM tuner in the HDHR-4 as it will likely have a gig ethernet connection.

With more research I have discovered a different product that exactly suits my needs. It is designed for satelite to stream on a server. Unfortunately it still uses older ethernet technology.

The HD Homerun tuner you linked to actually acts as a digital STB itself (3 digital STBs, actually), using a single M-type CableCard. The CableCard is REQUIRED for that particular model of HD Homerun to function. Once in operation, three devices (PCs or other compatible devices) can tune three different digital cable channels.

This recent thread was the link that revived this discussion.

Not sure why the need for an upgraded gig Ethernet for sharing one or two program streams. The 100 has more than adequate headroom for even the fattest satellite service.
