Another Court Loss for EchoStar, August 15th RIP

you are confusing local into local and DNS. This thread is about distants that people sometimes got by "moving" into an unserved area or other methods. Local into local doesnt have anything to do with this. Of course people can (possibly) get a differnet set of locals by this method but this has always been the case. I dont think everybody is squwaking about the loss of dns because they dont get any networks. It was ny/la/etc. that they wanted. Very few people are in nonlocal markets. If this is simply about getting any locals, there wouldnt be such a furor...

Of COURSE you can "move" your way out of this - on the contrary, "moving" will probably be on the increase due to this! The only thing is, if E* ends up dumping ALL distant service & puts ALL existing CONUS distants on spotbeams, you can still move to nearby/adjacent markets, of which their spotbeams cover your specific location. While obviously many people would not be able to get the likes of NY, LA & Denver, they could still get OOM nets & at least get something besides their crummy locals. (such as what ours are here  )

At my location, I could choose from over 1/2 dozen DMA's besides my own - while some of them I would have NO interest in, other markets such as Chicago & St.Louis MORE than fill the bill for myself as alternate markets. (although I will miss having NY & LA, but I'll survive... :( )

I'm sorry for my ignorance but where did the "August 15th RIP" come from in the title? The US District Court in Florida will hear the case then but it doesn't mean they'll impose the "shut-it-down" injunction then. Right?!

Yeah, they could hear a few motions first. I can't see it taking long, though. Wouldn't want to get slapped for wasteing the courts time again or would they?

The August 15th RIP came in from a like thread with as many views as this one, so I changed the title to reflect the second thread's name...

The 11th Circuit instructed the lower court to issue an injunction to stop EchoStar's distant network service. The 11th Circuit found that EchoStar had been selling the programming to hundreds of thousands of customers who were legally ineligible to buy it.

Previously, EchoStar asked the lower court to postpone the injunction until Sept. 11, claiming that the time could be used to reach an out-of-court settlement with hundreds of network affiliates that accused EchoStar of copyright infringement. Broadcasters have agreed to the Sept. 11 postponement.
