Antenna Pre-amps and line distribution amplifiers work differently. Pre-amps hook directly into the antenna in order to amplify as much of the signal received as possible before sending it down the coax line. Line distribution amps are designed to keep the signal boosted while splitting the signal to multiple receivers or televisions. Line distribution amplifiers are placed in front of a splitter before signal loss is introduced. If you are in a location where you're not getting enough signal for a stable picture, then a pre-amp might do the trick. Only use a line distribution amp if you are using a splitter or splitters.

Thanks for the great explanation..

I guess I don't need a preamp as all four local channels come in great, should be better after I get rid of that 75' of RG59 cable, with my fairly new Channel Master antenna... And after it gets pointed in the right direction..

Thanks again, BK
