Killing them with bb airguns if fun but messy, also I felt remorse about killing the first one until I realized I ate 10 chicken wings.

Do owl decoys work?

I don't get the part about the chicken wings.....too late in the day I suppose, lol. You could get a couple of cats maybe.....

Would ultrasonic devices work? Like the ones that are supposed to repel mice and there are others that repel deer. Maybe some kind of offensive smell repellent ? A hawk would likely be a natural pigeon repellent.

If you can find a plastic or rubber snake about 2 foot long, that will give them something to think about. Worked for me when I put one in a shade tree where I park one of my vehicles during the summer.

The snake and owl/hawk sound like winners, but that won't stop me from brainstorming up another idea: - :D

How about a motion sensor hooked to a solenoid valve for a sprinkler by the dish.?.
Birds fly in, birds gets sprinkled.

Just remember to turn off the defenses before YOU approach.
... and ya might want to think about whether it should be on a timer for daylight-only sprinkling (?)

Hot Foot. There is a product that comes in a caulking gun cartridge that has Cayenne pepper in it. Apply to roosting areas. If for Gulls, there is metal garland material that has sharp points.

Lived on a boat for several years that had a covered slip. After awhile the snakes and owls don't work.

Dish pooping pigeons? Whooaa! I'd get to shelter first, even a small dish could hurt like heck if it hit you!

Ha! :) Seriously, do they roost on the dish and make a mess, or are they roosting above and your dish just happens to be located below their nest?

If they are landing on the dish, they surely are most likely sitting on the prerimeter of the dish or on the LNBF or the support arms. Could you adorn these areas with some obstructions to deter them from roosting there? Like wooden, glass or decorative plastic spikes on the upper perimeter of the dish? You could make it look decorative and the pigeons would find it hard to roost on them.

If their nests are above, and especially if far above or dropping aerial bombs, there probably isn't much you can do besides eliminate the pigeons or shelter the dish.

You might be able to coat at least the dish reflector with something to make it easier to clean.

I keep waiting for a buck whitetail to use my dish for a rubbing post, but fortunately, that hasn't happened yet.

Maybe ya just need to install an appropriate Owl-perch... one that attracts owls. - :D

That is an awesome picture, Anole. I actually had an owl as a pet once a few years ago, for about a day. :) A male Great Horned owl. It flew up out of a ditch and a passing truck hit it and broke its wing. I took it to my cabin and let it poop all over before I took it to a raptor recovery center.

I had him riding in my truck as I was driving down the highway, not in any cage or box. He jumped up on the passenger armrest and was lookiing out the window when I passed a semi. I just about caused an acccident as the truckdriver kept staring at my "pet"?

Does he bite? No, but he's a real hoot! LOL

The pigeon poop is probably unsightly and not hygenic. Dry poop is not such of a problem, IMO. What is the problem, really?

You could wash off the dishes and/or wear gloves, if need be...

How much do they affect your signal?

OP, I see your 6 footer is a target too! :) Ever since I erected my SD180G, the birds have been targeting it. It's really unsightly. You could try some redneck wind chimes (aluminum cans on strings that blow in the wind). That's what I was considering, but the neighbors already think I'm a madman with all the dishes and early morning gazes at the International Space Station...

I like the Bird Gel and Flash Tape offered on the above website. I've seen some neighbors using glued plastic pads (they are sold as mouse traps) to scare pigeons. Usually one is placed in the most preferable by pigeons location. Once stack on such pad, a pigeon may get really scared, but can get away eventually since its paws contact area is very small, and the glue isn't toxic. Just make sure its water dissoluble, not oil based, and the pad is protected from rain. Pigeons won't usually come back. Flash tape or Gel can be added to LNB and dish edge surfaces. Such method don't seems to harm the birds. Remember, they don't have a clue about the alleged intent to compromise your property. I think they poop that much to claim their discovered new territory from flying competitors. Our responsibility is to protect life diversity on this planet. :)

Whos Dee?
I forgot if anyone is interested in defending your dish this is the airgun I used
the pellets are caliber .177, 14 Pumps should do it if you pump less you risk not killing the birds and just injuring so 14 pump so they dont suffer.

Killing pigeons is fun but messy, but I have a right to protect my Satellite Dish its right there in the bill of rights

While I have no problem with anything you want to do to get rid of the air-rats, I don't see posting pictures of 'em to be appropriate for the forum.

And as a practical matter, accidentally shooting an LNB, denting a dish, or launching a stray shot into the neighbor's yard are undesirable consequences.

CBand,

We all need to remember that there are other members here on this forum that deserve respect for their ideals. Everyone is entitled to their own prerogative, but that last picture is kinda ramming it down their throats, don't you think? You might want to edit that one out of your post, just to be sensitive and kind to all the other members. I think it would be the best thing to do.

Oh, and in case you were not aware, that is not a pigeon, that is a dove and you better not let a game warden know about it if they are out of season and you don't have a hunting license for this year... Seriously, don't get yourself in trouble my friend.
