Last question I promise, but seeing how our local CW is apparently Cable Only and to not have to pay for both Direct TV and Cable a waiver form would have to be used, was simply wondering if any of you have ever had to use one and how long and tenuous of a process it was.

My older sister's boyfriend said that the various local stations pretty much laughed at him when he tried to get them to sign a waiver form a few years ago.... I'm hoping this isn't indicative of how the process usually goes.

My roommate and his wife simply have to get access to The CW and I'm hoping that Direct TV will be willing to send me a waiver form rather easily (perhaps not likely) and that Cable One who owns our local CW will be willing to sign (not perhaps unlikely.. but just plain unlikely)

Worst case I'll help the two of them pay for Cable in addition to The Direct TV.. but that's clearly not ideal... as we would be paying some 50 dollars a month for one station. I use Cable one for my 8 meg internet access as well and I'm not sure if threatening to switch to DSL internet access would make them more likely to sign a waiver.. or if more or less they would simply tell me see ya later and let me leave.

I can get all other locals vis the ota antenna combo and am21 that I have on order.

CW isn't an option being a cable only station and the fact that it's not really a local CW.

Thanks once again and I apologize for all the questions this past week.

When it is cable only it is generally included under the locals on channel 14.

You would only need a waiver if a station can reach your area OTA, even perhaps from a different market, or on a digital substation, even a neighboring market.

Check if you get channel 14 here:
DIRECTV - Local Channels

If you dont, have them follow the waiver process, and if the neighboring station that is the issue approves the waiver, then you can purchase CW in the channel 360 range for $1.50 / mo (going from memory, hope its right)

I don't get any of the locals in Joplin, Mo

I have a am21 and an over the air antenna both coming that will allow me to get local cbs, abc and nbc among a few others, but our CW is part of what's called "CW plus" and not a 'true' local affiliate.

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_CW_Plus"]The CW Plus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:KWBD_CW.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/37/KWBD_CW.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/3/37/KWBD_CW.jpg[/ame]

I know that Wiki isn't always the most reliable source, but that's where I saw that ksxf is apparently owned by Cable One locally.

I know it can't reach me via ota signal... unless antennaweb and a few other sites are wrong and I don't think there's any surrounding areas that have true local cw affiliates either, since it seems only the top 100 or so markets have actual cw local affiliates. (everything else has the cw plus above or so it seems)

I just might have to go with the waiver form and hope for the best, though I don't think that saying I'll abandon their cable internet service is going to be enough to get a cable company of all things to sign a waiver form.

quick edit:

Looking at this below straight from Direct TV's website

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIFnorail.jsp?assetId=P4880022#h:727.954

it confirms that our CW is not an actual local CW... not sure what that means in terms of getting access without having to get cable. it has "missing" under cw local affiliate.

it doesn't have anything listed under "digital off air channel" either.

It 'does' however state that DNS is available

I'm assuming this means that I should in fact have access to The CW in the 300 range.... seeing how there's no way to receive it via an ota antenna. Would that sound about right? Again I'm not worried about the actual channels that have local affiliates... ABC,CBS,NBC and Fox.. because I'll get them with my antenna and am21.

Do you think I would even have to get a waiver from Cable One, seeing how our CW isn't technically a 'local' CW in the truest sense of the word? Yes it's owned by Cable One.. but not an actual CW local only affiliate (IE: no local news for example)

I just called Direct Tv and they said that they will send a waiver form through, but to call back once it's actually installed and ready to go as they can't do anything until then.

Keeping my finger's crossed.
