Anything new on @#%^(* OTA PG Issue?

Hi Dogpoobob,

Haven't completely given up, hope they eventually get their act together, just tired of trying to get them to fix this. It's always a line of BS they give me, and they always tell me it will be fixed in the next update to the software. I just got my 811 hooked up yesterday, and interestingly the same channels show up with descriptions, and the same channels show up as "Digital Local" as with the 942. (ABC, FOX and WMAK show as "Digital Local" in my market. I had been told previously that the 811 grabs the channel info from the PSIP stream, but it appears that it does the exact same thing as the 942 in reality.)

Ok, I'm completely lost. I am in the Washington DC DMA and subscribe to the DC locals: (however I can pick up many more channels in the area)

Washington DC - PG shows data for all channels (except PBS) for nine days.
Baltimore MD - PG shows data for all channels for nine days.
Richmond VA - PG shows data for two (2) channels and "Digital Local" for all others.
Charlottesville VA - PG shows "Digital Local" for both channels.

1. Why does the PG for my home DMA work while dogpoobob and seandudley receive the dreaded "Digtal Local"?
2. Why am I receiving nine days of PG data for the Baltimore locals when I do not and can not subscribe to them? It could only be PSIP...right?
3. Based on #2, I will assume PG data is actually coming from Dish since, to the best of my knowledge, local broadcasters are only sending 3 days of PG in their PSIP.
4. Based on #2, why am I receiving PG data for Baltimore (outside my home DMA) and not Richmond and Charlottesville VA, which are almost half the distance and map as "probable" digital reception locals at CheckHD.com?

From what I have been told, the 942 is unable to use PSIP information at all at this time. Any program guide data gets sent from Dish. Dish seems to mess up different ways in different areas, I guess they are just messing up totally different in your area than mine and Dogpoobob's.

But why would Dish be sending PG data for channels outside my home DMA of DC? VOOM was in the process of creating Super DMA maps based on zipcode...and when I first ordered service back in early May, I requested to have Baltimore and Richmond data mapped to my PG. I was told this was against FCC rules and Dish would only supply me with PG data for the DC locals. If PSIP isn't working, and Dish doesn't send PG data for locals outside my home DMA...then how I am I receive PG data as noted in my above post?

Since I am receiving 9 full days of date in the PG, I will assume this information is being sent from Dish. I just wish that I could get the straight scoop from E* on this one. Anyone?

The policy is you must subscribe to local to get the guide data for your free OTAs. This applies to 921 and 942 (maybe 625) owners. For 811 users and if your locals were on a wing satellite (61.5 or 148 {not on 105/121 superdish}), which is a larger majority of users, that you would need a dish setup and active at that location to get the OTA guide data.

Is this a dead issue? Are there so few of us with the problem that it will never get fixed? Would one of you guys with the ear of Dish give us an answer? I can't even get Dish to respond to my requests for info.

Yep, this appears to be a dead issue since so few are complaining. At this point, you should send an e-mail to the Dish CEO address. Referring back to one of my previous posts...I receive 9 days worth of PG data for my locals (DC) and for many of Baltimore locals as well. This is obviously being sent my E*. However, I am not receiving PG data for my Richmond and Charlottesville VA locals. This makes no sense at all...what is E* doing?

First, I am glad that E* is sending PG data for my local DMA (DC). It is too bad that some people, like Bob, are still seeing "Digital Local" in their PG.

Second, I can see if E* only wants to send PG for my local DMA (DC), but why are they sending PG for Baltimore locals when they are NOT significantly viewed (SV) according to the FCCs County Map?

Third, based on FCCs SV areas my County qualifies for Richmond and Charlottesville SV locals. If anything, E* should be sending me PG data based on the SV requirement. Again, why Baltimore?

Just got back from a trip out of town and I have PG info for all of my primary OTAs. HURRAH!!! The only remaining bitch is that I don't get anything for the PBS HD channel which is 10-3. Oh Well.:(

Yep, my last two no-data stations showed up over the weekend. PBS is still a no-show, but I can live with that (not that I don't like PBS-HD, some of the best HD is there).

Dish's policy that you must subscribe to locals to get the PG for OTA digital locals is a bit annoying. I paid over $100/month on my sub and I still don't get the PG on my 811 because I don't sub to locals.

If I did sub to locals, I'd have to replace my D500 with the SuperDish, because my locals are on 105. Then, I would never, ever watch them, because I get all of my locals in HD via OTA, however they would then be in my PG.

I guess I could sub to locals, tell them that I have a 2nd dish pointing at 105, even though I don't and then pay them $5/month for the sole purpose of getting the PG.

The 811 doesn't receiver doesn't require you to sub to locals to get PG info. You would get PG if they were available, but if don't have a dish that points to your sat location that has your locals (like if your locals are on only on a Superdish) then the PG won't show up.

Ok, say I gave in to the extoration and paid Dish for LiLs just to get a PG for the 2 measly OTA channels I get on my 942; ...what about those of us that were forced to choose between their DNS and LiLs ?

I had to let my LiLs go in order to keep my distant NBC, ABC & Fox, which I DO pay Dish $1.50 each for.

Has anyone actually talked to the FCC about this ? If they can mandate stations provide PSIP data why can't they mandate that all equipment being used to recieve those stations can not block that data ?

Yea, I think that one is "normal". Dish only intends on providing program guide data on channels that they actually carry as a local-in-local chennel. Since PBS has different programming on their HD channel than their main channel which is carried by Dish, they don't provide you the programming guide data for the PBS-HD channel.

Need Help Re-sighting Dish

Lost DD5.1 Audio and I can't get it back (942)
