Are my DVR recordings lost?

I just finished up my first year of service and got the price increase associated with year two. To offset this increase, I changed my package from the 200 package to the 60 channel package. The new package does not have Disney or Nick channels. I had lots of movies and TV programs recorded to the DVR from those channels. They were recorded months ago when I subscribed to those channels and had been working fine. Now that I dropped those channels, it won't let me watch the recordings. It says you are viewing a pay channel that you do not subscribe to.

Are these recordings really inaccessible now? That seems a little unfair since I paid for the recorded content. Also, my recordings of one Nick show seem to still work. I also have recordings from HBO and other premium channels from the weekends when they were offered free. Those recordings have always worked even though we don't subscribe to those channels. Also, if I were to add those channels back, would the recordings still be there and active again? Can anyone please clear this up for me? I would hate to lose this large library of recordings.

Let me guess... You have a Hopper. My VIP DVRs don't do this. Or at least, they didn't do this the last time I downgraded...

Yes, I should have added that info. I have a hopper and two joeys. I couldn't access those recordings on any of the TVs. They show up in my DVR folder as normal, and they even show the progress of where I left the recording. But when I try to watch, I get the error message.

The Hopper had this issue early on, but I thought Dish had fixed that. Seems to be broken again. Maybe somebody with a Hopper can verify or give better advice than I. In the meantime, I see two choices to get your recorded programs back, and neither of them are very good.

1) Upgrade your package to what it was before
2) Wait for Dish to fix the firmware again

I wanted to give an update. After several hours, access to my recordings returned. Maybe the DVR was just updating all of the channels and permissions, although my onscreen guide updated immediately upon making the package change online. Whatever the problem was, it's completely fixed now and I could access everything I had on the DVR. So if this happens to you, just walk away for a few hours and try again later.

Thanks for the responses.

It's still seriously annoying that the Hopper even temporarily prohibits access to stored recordings. Why is such logic in the firmware at all? It's DRM gone mad, if you ask me.

The theory is that you chop access to everything then as you verify it is still OK, you add it back. While these devices have powerful processors, some things take time to settle out.

If I had a dime for every person who complained instantly about something that came a short time later, I'd be rich.
