Digital-video-encoder company EGT Inc. announced that Armstrong Cable Services Inc. is buying additional “Quartet” encoders capable of handling 88 program channels.

Each Quartet constant-bit-rate encoder can handle up to four program channels in a single-rack unit. EGT designed the Quartet encoder for local-channel applications, such as public-access channels.

“The EGT encoders are an important element in our digital-simulcast network as we duplicate our analog channels all the way to customers’ set-top boxes and digital TVs,” said Mike Giobbi, vice president of engineering and technology for Armstrong, in a prepared statement.
