Hi All,

Tonight while moving from 105w to 101w, my ASC1 remote stopped working. I tried changing out several sets of batteries, all of which worked in my other devices. It still didnt move my dish, except for an occasional jump east or west, if I hit the buttons several times. The remote also wont turn the ASC1 on or off. All the buttons on the front of the box work fine and move the dish with no issues. The remote worked fine yesterday.
Any ideas how to fix this issue or do I have to hunt for a new remote... if I can find one ?
Thanks in advance.

John

I'm guessing the remote lock out button is not pressed?? If not you may can take the remote apart and clean it. I have fixed several this way.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the recommendation.
Where is the remote lock out button located ?
If this isn’t the issue, is there a safe way to take this remote apart ? ?
Good to hear from you and thanks for responding.

John

Turn ON your phones camera. Point the ASC remote led at it, hit a button. Do you see it light up on the camera consistently? If not, the remote is bad, or needs the keyboard cleaned. 70% alcohol and q-tips do a good job if you take it apart and wipe the circuit traces.

primestar31,

Thanks for responding
After checking if the lock button was on, as Mike suggested...it wasnt... I did what you suggested.and saw a flashing light reflected in the iPhone’s camera when I pushed any button.
It still doesn’t work when pointed at the ASC1

Well, at least that proves that the remote is actually putting out a signal. That likely means there's something going on with the ASC1 box itself. Maybe you could open the box, and check to see if the receiving sensor somehow slipped down out of the window? Titanium

primestar31,

Well I took off the front faceplate on the ASC1 and didn't readily see any sort of sensor.
Maybe Brian might have an answer.
Thanks again.

John

The sensor is behind the little window circled in red. Also, have you tried unplugging it for a few mins and plugging it back in? As, a last resort you can do a global reset.

Mike,

I just tried your unplugging the unit suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work.
Dont know what caused this IR sensor to crap out so suddenly. The ASC 1 wasn’t dropped or mishandled in any way.

John

Yeah, at this point we don't know if it is a hardware failure, or software. If you make a backup you can do a global reset.
.....or do a global reset and just program everything back in by hand.

Mike,

Its been a while...how do I do a back up prior to a global reset ?
Its like the old days for me right now as I have to get off my butt to change “channels”
I really appreciate your assistance and the assistance of primestar31.
Thanks.

John

Hi All,

I MIGHT have solved the problem.
On closer inspection of the IR sensor on the front panel, it seemed to be not totally flush with the opening in the front panel. I may have inadvertantly pushed the sensor out of alignment while cleaning the unit.
After realigning all is well...I hope.

Good deal. As a technician my whole life, it took me a while to finally figure out that what appeared to be the hardest problems invariably turned out to eventually have the simplest answers
