Just in from the local API and other news centers:

Beginning Sunday, Jan. 21, consumers and businesses that subscribe to the AT&T Unity plan will be able to call more than 100 million AT&T wireless and wire line phone numbers with incurring any additional fees or using any of their wireless minutes.

If an AT&T Unity subscriber calls someone who is not an AT&T customer, the minutes will either be covered by unlimited night and weekend minutes if it's between the hours 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. If not, the minutes will be deducted from the customer's wireless minutes.

This new scheme has been named AT&T Unity and it is being offered as a value added service to customers who pay for both the $50 a month unlimited local and long-distance calling plan for their home or business and the $59.99 a month unlimited wireless plan.

Also, customers who sign up for the new Unity plan will no longer get rollover minutes. AT&T/Cingular has been the only U.S. wireless firm that lets customers keep unused minutes for the next billing period.
