Is there a way to turn off the automatic post merging?

It's getting pretty annoying when you're responding to different people's posts in the same thread. Especially when those comments are unrelated.

I've been caught by that several times already. I have to go back and edit the post and then do another.

That's what I've been doing. Which leads back to the annoying part.
