The following story contains MODERATE SPOILERS for the upcoming "Battlestar Galactica" telemovie "Razor."

Every bad situation has a silver lining if one looks hard enough, and even though some great characters introduced in the second mid-season finale of "Battlestar Galactica" would find early graves, the art of flashback will bring the Battlestar Pegasus back to life again in SciFi Channel's November telemovie on the series.
Keeping anything a secret on the set of "Battlestar Galactica" has been impossible, and "Razor" has been no exception with it almost common knowledge that the telemovie will focus on the Cylon attacks from the Pegasus perspective, along with recreations of some of the events that took place on the embattled ship only talked about before. "Razor," however, won't just be a typical flashback episode, sources tell SyFy Portal. It will bring together fans of both the original 1970s series and the 2003 remake like no episode has before, and it will feature revelations that will make jaws drop and instill fear on what might come in Season 4.

Michelle Forbes -- introduced to genre fans as the Bajoran Ensign Ro in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" -- will reprise her role as the iron-balled admiral in the telemovie, proving to viewers that her sunny disposition wasn't exactly the result of the Cylons annihilating nearly all of the human race. Cain is fighting some demons of her own, one of the biggest ones stretching back to the original Cylon War 40 years before where she watched her parents executed by the 1970s versions of the living machines, and being forced to make the impossible decision of leaving her little sister behind in an effort to save herself.
But the biggest skeleton in Cain's closet will finally come out, so to speak. Remember the disgust Cain had for Gina (Tricia Helfer), the Number Six Cylon prisoner she was holding on Pegasus by the time the military vessel met up with the Galactica? Well, things weren't always that bad between the two ladies. In fact, before her exposure as a Cylon, things were much, much, much, much different.
"Cain and Gina were quite close," a source tells SyFy Portal. "In fact, they were lovers. We don't exactly come out and say it, but you'd have to be sleeping through the middle of all this to not pick up on their relationship." Some viewers who had been pushing for some sort of homosexual representation on "Battlestar Galactica" should finally get their wishes answered with this revelation, especially since many viewers speculated that Cain might be a lesbian previously. And it won't exactly be the first time "Battlestar Galactica" has delved into same-sex relationships, as it was implied that the love triangle between Six, Baltar (James Callis) and Number Three (Lucy Lawless) also involved love between Six and Three as well.
We've gone out of our way to make sure that it wasn't thrown in there just to throw it in there," the source said. "The love between the two sets up a [dramatic] device of betrayal, and what scorned love can create in the heat of the moment. Finding out your lover is really the enemy might not be new, but this should be a fresh perspective."
As previously reported on SyFy Portal, rumors were out that the original Cylon models from the 1970s ABC series would make a cameo appearance in the telemovie, but another source says that's just not true. The inclusion of the original models is full on, and they will likely get more screen time than the new versions first introduced in the 2003 miniseries.

"They are going to have the same voice, the same sparkle, the same type of ships, everything," the source said. "You're going to see them in the beginning where we feature scenes from the height of the original Cylon War, but members of our ragtag fleet will have the opportunity for a face-to-face or two with them as well."
Unlike the Cylons from the original series, these units will be created using computer imagery much like the mechanical units shown in the new series. But it's unlikely that little else will be different about the Cylons, which should give fans a much-needed dose of nostalgia as "Battlestar Galactica" gears up for its fourth and final season in 2008.
The telemovie will air in November on SciFi Channel, and be released on DVD soon after. Depending on how successful this direct-to-DVD project is, NBC Universal could find a future in "Battlestar Galactica" in this medium in the future. Please note that these source reports have not been confirmed by NBC Universal or the powers that be behind "Battlestar Galactica," and should be treated as any rumors would.

Wow, talk about a spoiler that I was not expecting.

Cain and No. 6 as lovers? That scene will be worth the price of the DVD. :D

Sci Fi Executives Weigh 'Battlestar Galactica' Options

The Sci Fi Channel is wrestling with a pair of key decisions for its acclaimed “Battlestar Galactica” series: whether to break the highly anticipated final chapter into two 10-episode seasons, and deciding whether to greenlight a two-hour pilot for the long-gestating “Caprica” spin-off.

Sci Fi executives attending the NBC Universal pre-Emmy party at Spago in Beverly Hills Saturday said the decision whether to split the final season was an ongoing discussion, but at least one network programmer was firmly against the idea.
As is often the case with the lavishly produced series, the issue is “the money people,” as one executive put it. Since “Battlestar” eats a considerable portion of the Sci Fi programming budget, the network might be forced to spread the resulting product across two seasons.

Showrunner Ron Moore shrugged off the issue. “It doesn’t effect my job either way since we’re shooting it straight through,” he says. “It might be better to get it all done [in the same year] for the fans so they don’t have to wait.”
Ideally, the programming department prefers to stick to their original game plan to wrap up the series in the first half of next year. HBO broke up the final season of “The Sopranos” across two years – which makes more sense for a popular series on a premium network that’s seeking to retain subscribers – but still managed to antagonize fans and lost some viewership.

With “Battlestar” fans already waiting about a year for the return of the series -- not counting the two-hour “Razor” stand-alone movie coming this fall -- returning with only 10 episodes could spark a revolt.
Moore’s storyline could also make fans demand rapid closure, one person close to the project says, since “when people see the ending of the tenth episode they’re gonna freak out.”

The final decision might not come until January. A key factor is what new shows are in the pipeline that could be paired with “Galactica” – and how much those shows will cost.
One such title is the oft-discussed “Caprica” spin-off series. Most recently presumed a dead project, Sci Fi executives seem to have renewed enthusiasm for the idea, especially with the looming prospect of losing Moore following the conclusion of “Battlestar.” Moore has about four projects in development at NBC and a flurry of theatrical deals (more on that in a moment), and the network wants to find a way to keep the talented showrunner in-house.
Plus, executives say “Caprica” has the potential to retain and expand the passionate “Battlestar” audience. The tone is lighter and more of a character-driven drama than an action series. The network is considering ordering a two-hour pilot that could serve as a stand-alone event – just like the mini-series that launched Moore’s “Battlestar” remake. The movie would be accompanied by a consecutive DVD release.

Especially if the similarly conceived stand-alone “Razor” performs strongly, the thinking seems to be that a two-hour “Caprica” pilot could justify its expense. Worst case scenario: The pilot is aired and sold as a DVD, recouping some costs. If the pilot is strong, then the network has a new series.

Either way, by the time “Battlestar” returns next year, Sci Fi Channel will have launched its high-definition simulcast channel, allowing viewers to finally see the show in HD during its premiere run.
As for Moore’s other anticipated sci-fi project, he says he just turned in his script for Universal's motion picture update of John Carpenter’s 1982 version of “The Thing.”

“I’m happy with it,” Moore says, and described the script as “a companion piece” rather than a remake of the Carpenter version. “That film doesn’t need to be re-made,” he says. Moore’s script includes segments set long before the modern discovery of the shape-shifting alien in the Arctic, including an encounter with the Inuit natives.
Moore was Emmy nominated for outstanding writing in a drama series, but he wasn’t very optimistic about winning. Up against the “Sopranos” finale, Moore wrestled with whether to write a speech.
“I’m very prepared to hear David Chase’s name float across the auditorium,” he said.

Other than coming from DirecTV, this is the first time I have actually seen a reference to Sci Fi HD.

Hopefully they won't be stupid and soprano-ize the final season. But then again, we are dealing with NBC Universal.

Just watched Razor and it certainly brings up some interesting questions for the coming season of Galactica. I have a friend that writes reviews and wanted to watch it on my big screen and I must say my new HD A2 from the WalMart sale does an amazing job of upconverting .

I only saw it "downconverted" to my ipod touch, but it was great. Gotta rip it to DVD and give the HD A2 a chance with it. :)

Watched it last night. Cool seeing the old tin cans and classic cylon raiders again.

FYI, the Adama storyline is much shortened in the final version, so if you want the complete one you do still need to watch the 2 minute teasers SciFi is showing each friday night.

Friday Nite the 23rd has a lot of episodes also...
