Just wondering what everyone out there is using?

Sammy, US Digital (Hi-Sense), another? What have you used in the past, present & why?

Anyone know when the next 6th gen chip set tuners will be out?

Use: I just use old satellite receivers with an ATSC tuner for set top boxes.
Why: I currently dont need QAM, and the quality is very good for a cheap price.
:info http://roashru.fortunecity.com/ DirecTV page updated.

If you are asking about the LG 6th generation ATSC chip LGDT3304 you can use a search engine and a korean to english translating web site like babelfish to find more info so far nothing spectacular to pass on. The LG LGDT3302 (4th), and LGDT3303 (5th) based set top boxes are still good choices the only difference between the 4th and 5th generation was the added "enhanced multi-ghost cancellation" both chips have 0dB echo problems.

How do they both compare to the 5th gen chipsets found in the Samsung DTB-H260F?

I asked this elsewhere but still no reply.

What chipset is in the DishNet 811 for an ATSC tuner? 3rd, 4th gen??? Certainly not a 5th! Who makes it? Broadcom maybe? As in the case of the 211 & 622.

Anyone have a non-operational 811 whose willing to crack the case and take a peek, and maybe post a pic? I'm dying to know exactly what is used for the ATSC tuner in the 811!!!

TIA.

UPDATE:

Never mind. Curiosity got the best of me, so I cracked open one of my two 811's. The OTA tuner is a BROADCOM BCM3510....and get this it's a 2nd gen tuner!!!! Holy crap, I surely thought it would've at least been a 3rd gen chipset. This things a fossil as compared to whats currently available!

See it here..

Jimmy J, The generic chip generation description is useless. If your worried about getting the latest and greatest ATSC receiver all you have to ask or find out is if the ATSC receiver meets or exceeds the "A/74 Receiver Performance Guideline". :)

I did a quick search the Dish Network 811 ATSC receiver dosnt seem to meet this.

Well Duh! The 811 is a fossil too. But in it's time (2003), it won the CES best of show award with the 921 receiver.

Ok, help me out. What STB do you recommend that meets or exceeds the A/74 performance guidelines???

I cant wait to see the Texas Instruments A/74 receiver performance guideline compliant demodulator chip. its in development.

Jimmy J, The answer your looking for is in THIS forum thread!

I looked up the USDTV receivers they are not A/74 Receiver Performance Guideline compliant. The ATI Xilleon chip inside only decodes MPEG-2 same one used on computer video cards the demodulator is the ATI NXT2004! :shocked

Still doesn't answer my question. Is the Sammy not A/74 compliant? What box would you recommend for really deep fringe reception???

Jimmy J, If you want to pin the ATI Xilleon demodulator chip to a class its A/74 Receiver Performance Guideline compliant.
