Best time to switch to Dish?

I still have 4 months left on my DirecTV contract but I'm thinking about biting the bullet and paying early termination to take advantage of an offer to switch back to Dish for a $500 gift card. I can't see the $500 offer being available much longer if the merger is eminent. I had planned to go back to Dish regardless because I miss the Hopper 3 functionality. Thoughts...

This DTV/Dish Network isn't eminent it will still take a year to get approved. Maybe even scrapped if the bond holders don't like the sweetened pot that DTV just gave them.

Isn't it pathetic what it all came down to, paying $500 to people to start service? When they started out, it was like $499 for the equip. plus installation
