Wait in line I want Voom to hire me to produce several funny clips and excerpts to toss into the intermissions of Kung Fu and Guy HD.

VOOM should hire me to edit their movies and insert frames of porn movies at random, a la Fight Club. :D :D :D

Many HD sets will allow "Joe Sixpack" to zoom his OAR movie to fill his new 16:9 screen. Those that don't should only be bought by tech savy consumers. How about a new designation: HD Monitor-Joe Sixpack edition?

Very few HD stb's have this option and most TV's lock it when HD is detected. That's one of the features I like about the Dish 6000, it will alter an HD image.

My TV via component will change I think, but not via DVI, and not 1080i for some reason, whatever 1080i signal it gets regardless of source it will not alter, so a STB option for me would be ok, although I'll most likely just leave it as is.

Save World Cinema!

I understand Arthouse will probably include a healthy mix of world cinema but I worry it might dwindle too much.

I must confess I tell friends that if I put uncomfortable seats in my living roon, and mess up the sound, World Cinema can turn my living room into a little Art Cinema.

Well, just make sure to keep enough foreign content in Arthouse and I'll be happy. Do not make it another IFC. I like IFC, but it gets stuck in Avante Garde too often. I truly enjoy seeing what the rest of the world creates as cinema.

Viva World Kino!!

Sean that new movie Arizona something with Johnny D, this movie IS 1.77:1? Or has the OAR thing not started yet?

funny story about the whole OAR issue - went to the store to pick up StarWars tonight after midnight. I'm standing in front of the display, a guy is holding the full screen edition. I said - didn't you want the widescreen version? He said - no, they cut the top and bottom off of your TV with that. I said, no, they show you the whole movie with the widescreen, the other one cuts the left and right off of your movie to fit it on your screen. He was so confused from learning that he decided to buy the movie later after he had time to think about it.

I don't blame the poor guy for being confused. The first time I saw the big "fullscreen" banner on a DVD, I thought that was Blockbuster's dumb way of saying movie isn't cropped. "Fullscreen" as in you get the full screen of the movie, not as in your 4x3 TV is full. I didn't figure they would actually ADVERTISE the fact that they crop their movies.

I still have a good friend of mine who does nothing but argue for fullscreen, even though he's seen the difference... you just will never please anyone even if you're giving them clearly the better product.

8 days and counting...

I think they need to teach kids about OAR in school or something so we can avoid the "Full Screen"/"Widescreen" dilemma. ;)

My daughter's 8 years old and she knows the difference. :D

I'm curious as to OAR black lines and burn in on rear projection. I hear Black lines are the worst for burn in. how do I protect my Mitsu 55"

I've always been told that Anamorphic Widescreen is the best for HD movie reproduction. Because it Takes the OAR of the movie and fits it to a 16x9 ratio screen. Thus preventing burn in. Is the difference between OAR and Anamorphic Widescreen worth damaging your HDTV?

Here is a good link to learn more about Letterbox, and anamorphic widescreen for those who don't fully understand the concept.

So Smasuch, What you are trying to say is that you still get black lines on Anamorphic widescreen as well depending upon the OAR. That I did'nt know. So is Anamorphic Widescreen the type of transfer they will be using? It is the best from what I have experienced. Everybody here is saying they are going to just use OAR. Again why not Anamorphic. Even the website you directed me to says that it is the best.

I think that there is no to limited hardware support for Anamorphic HD right now.

DerrellP, Ya Mitsu's default is to have the contrast max'd out. That was the first things I corrected with a calibration disc. But I still thought the black lines where BAD NEWS on the screen even after calibrating. Thanks for the heads up. For now on I won't bother with the Stretch mode for Non-HD content. That stretch mode is horrible to watch I would much rather go with Narrow for non-HD.
