birddog satellite meter 3.0

i have expressed interest in my local craigslist about looking for a birddog sat meter and last night a direct tv guy called and said he has been there a month and they gave him a brand new birddog and took 500 out of his checks to pay for it! anyways it must be the new 3.0 to cost that much new, he said he has everything it came with and it is one month used and he would sell for 250.00. great price! i was wondering if any of you who have one could tell me more about it. can you find actuall transponders or just the satellite? also is the quality pct on the meter the same that will show one your box? also will these things light up at nighttime? my digi 3 has no light so at night when i mess with the dish i have to use a light to look at my meter. what advantages are on these dogs? thanks guys! joe
