I've rented 2 Blu Rays from Redbox and both had elevated blacks.
The Amazing Spider Man 2
Sex Tape
Viewing blacks on both were fine during previews. Once the movie started they go up. Bars look light gray and so do dark scenes.

I have seen it on two rentals so far. Weird stuff going on in the letterbox bars when they should be black. Mine is calibrated, so reference black is always "black" with no dithering, but have seen the plasma dither on the bars in two different films lately. Weird stuff... Can't remember which two though.

The ones I notice this on are from Sony.
I don't think I've had a blu ray from Sony that this hasn't happened.
When it does happen it does it on both Sony projector and Sammy UHDTV.

It's definitely weird.

First time it happened It scared the crap out of me because I thought my VT50 was going bad. After realizing it was the movie and not the player or TV I moved on. Then it happened once more recently. I'll have to start noting these down so we can track them

On my plasma in areas that arent video black, but very dark, of course you can see green dither. Thats what I was seeing in the letter box bars, but it wasnt consistent and it moved around. It dark scenes, it was quite annoying!
