After about 11 years on the same software, and only one or two actual "hardware" (computer) upgrades, the time had come. WION bought new servers, upgraded by our engineer Scott, and we invested in new on air software by the same vendor, who happens to be a Michigan corporation, so...we're "shopping locally" too!
On Thursday, The new systems moved from Scott's bench to our studios, first the on-air, then Popeye John's office/WION production room. So far, so good.
Our systems are complex, and have to do many jobs that we see, and many behind the scenes. So far, so good on this Thursday evening of October 22nd (Chili Dawg Challenge night.) We'll be monitoring our system for any hiccups and tuneups needed, but...we have high hopes that within a few short days, you'll once again be hearing the Michigan News Network, Sports from across our state, reliable CBS recording (many have been missed of late, no fault of any human)...and expanded "features" and capabilities which will result in better sound, and an overall better station.
This system was not inexpensive, and is not a lease, it's an INVESTMENT we make to better serve you, our listeners, and our advertisers. It is NO small investment, and is one of the many "costs" of being in the radio business.
We trust you'll pardon any glitches the next few days and weeks of this new software, we've gone from "version 4.3 to version 15! That's one BIG jump in capabilities and learning curve. We also hope, that in return for our investment, you'll go out of your way when shopping one of our advertisers to TELL THEM you heard them on the radio! That's how they know their dollars spent here as advertisers are well-placed. It only takes a moment, and it makes SUCH a difference to them. ALL our advertisers!
Much new and fun on-air "stuff" to come with this new upgrade, so please stay tuned! Get our app from Google Play or I-tunes, enjoy us "on the go"...and know that we don't steal any info from you, either when you use the app! Look how few permissions it needs! It will be a few days to a week or more until we can restore your seeing artist and title if listening on the stream, but rest assured, it will be restored. NEW software and more hours are needed for this to happen.
