Rumors have been flying ever since the pop tart was photographed meeting with the Bond brain trust in London.
But the rumors are nothing to get shaken (or even stirred) up about.
According to MGM, the meeting was at Spears' request, and the 007 producers agreed to attend as a courtesy. Spears left without a 007 deal and, besides, the next spy-series flick does not yet have a script, a rep for MGM told E! on Wednesday. (MGM distributes all of the Bond films.)
We can only speculate the maneuver was part of the singer's attempt to transition from "Not Yet a Woman" to mature performer.
After all, being a Bond girl upped the va-va-voom quotient of celebs such as Denise Richards, Grace Jones, Ursula Andress and Halle Berry (news), who almost scored her own 007 spinoff.
For now, Brit must make do with producing and starring in an adaptation of author Tobi Tobin's Door to Door, in which she plays an ambitious teen trying to make it big in Hollywood. The part must be dj vu for Spears, who played an aspiring teen trying to make it in the music business in her feature debut Crossroads.
Spears has also been linked to a big-screen version of The Dukes of Hazzard, filling out Daisy Duke's Daisy Dukes, but no final deal as of yet.
The pop singer, fresh off a one-minute marriage, is having better luck with her music career. Her current album In the Zone is number six on the latest album chart. Spears begins a national tour to promote Zone on Mar. 2 in San Diego, wrapping up Apr. 10 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
