Okay,
First thank you for any help you all can give me. I have two receivers, a HR24-500 DVR and a HR24-100 HD receiver. I have whole house and according to DirecTV, was supposed to have on demand as well. Well needless to say I don't.... The whole house DVR goes in and out and is totally unreliable, and now they are telling me I have to pay 126.00 to have a broadband deca installed to have both work. I have no problem with DIY. All I need to know is where in this setup do I install the broadband deca for both to work. I can hardwire both boxes to my network and I have a SWM on the back of my HR24-500 DVR. Can anybody help with the installation process?

Thanks again!

First off, :welcome to Satelliteguys!

I don't have mrv, so I'm not sure about the setup, but were you supposed to get the on demand access when you got the install? If so, it should be up to Directv to make sure you get it. Are the boxes connected with ethernet cables? If so, I think you have to remove them for the DECA and internet to work together.

You have a what? Is this a white box with 3 lights (DECA)? If so, and this is an HR24, then I have to ask who did the install? Because the H24/HR24 receivers have the DECA module built in, and the one hanging off the back of your HR24 is completely unnecessary, and could be contributing to your whole-house DVR (MRV) not working.

That being said, you don't need the on-demand hooked up for MRV to work. The MRV creates a closed network (called a cloud) between your receivers, and the "Cinema Connection Kit (a DECA with a power supply)" acts as a bridge between your network and the cloud so it can download your programs off the internet. Ideally you should connect the broadband DECA to an unused port on your SWiM splitter. If there isn't one available, you will either have to split one of the ports using a green-label two-way SWiM splitter, or (ideally) change out your existing splitter for a larger one (again the green label is important). Once it is connected to both the SWiM system and your network, you go into the settings and run network setup. Auto is usually fine, but most people have better overall reliability setting static IP addresses for each receiver. If you need help with that, let us know, it's pretty basic.

Sorry, I misspelled... I have a SWIM with two coaxial ports that are both used. The ip addressing and networking I can take care of. I was supposed to have OnDemand when it was installed however DirecTV is saying that I should have noticed before the technician left and now it will cost me to have it installed. Not happy about that.... So what I need to do is get a SWIM (green label) with more than two ports and a broadband deca. Run an Ethernet cable to the DECA, then a short coaxial to a port on the SWIM. Then set the network settings in the setup menu. Do I have this correct? Also, do I need a deca on both of boxes or just the DVR? Thank you for the feedback and the warm welcome....

Oh ok, so you have a coaxial line that goes from the dish to the DVR, then it is split behind the DVR to the other receiver? If so, then yes, all you have to do is replace that with a 4-way green label SWiM splitter, and connect your broadband DECA to an open port. You only need the one DECA, and it will serve all of your networkable boxes. Also, the DECA must be powered. So if you get a white one, it will have a coaxial power injector that connects to the female coaxial end (this end can NOT hook to the SWiM or a receiver), if you get a black one, it'll have one coaxial port, one RJ45, and a regular wall wart jack.
