I noticed on SolidSignal that you can buy receivers. For instance you can buy the HR44 for $299.

What's the difference between buying the receivers from SolidSignal and getting the directly from DirecTV?

A couple of people are asking over on another forum that I hang out at and I was hoping that I could get an answer for them.

This doesn't mean you own it. It is a lease fee. You would still have a 2 yr. contract and have to return the box to Directv if you stop service.

Directv is the only one who sells receivers.

They have lease option, a lease without a commitment option, and a purchase option.

I don't remember the prices off hand .
But if you call Directv they will gladly tell you.
But now that Att is in charge who know what the deal is now.

When I called the Genies were not for sale.
Just for lease.

you get the exact model you want. Back when the 2 tuner DVR's were big there were 4 models and you could have got any of the 4. MOst wanted the HR24 as it was the fasest (at the time)

Why would you spend $299 on a Genie from Solid Signal when its a leased box?

Your better off calling Directv and sweet talking them into giving you one to use for FREE, or at a discount off of the $299

Nothing!

It is leased and comes with a 2-year commitment. And you still can't have multi-Genies.

I'm thinking that Owned recvrs are far and few between ....
I haven't seen owned prices in ages.

Typically, the employees are the ones with owned boxes any more.

However, as mentioned earlier, you CAN choose the model you want.

Many people out the want a particular model.
Ala no one anymore wants a HR34.

I have purchased several receivers from SS and have often, not always, but often been reimbursed for the cost by D*
You get the receiver that you desire and can install it on your own.

You have to call them.
They don't advertise,
It was $199 for HR 24 lease.
$299 for lease without commitment, and $449 for owning .

I had a whole price sheet from 2014.
They will sell you an owned receiver .
Whether they are few and far between is irrelevant.

Question is, Why would you want to own it ?
If it goes bad, do they replace it free of charge ?

Some People own them so they can activate and deactivate when they are at their vacation homes.
Or if they have them in their RV.

Like my RV the receivers can be removed, but I don't take them out.
I just pay $7 or $14 when I need to use them.

I just leave mine on in the RV, it's only $5 a month and occasionally when out in the RV I turn it on and watch, also comes in handy when you need to get out of the house, away from others !
