I got a 10 foot dish with C band LNB and motor. My friend gave it to me but he did not have a receiver. I was a click away to buy the PanSat 3500S and someone told NO NO NO, it will not work for C band. And he was right. I almost throw my money away.

What receiver should I buy and from where? Any subjections???

Any DVB will work with both c/ku band, it depends though on what type of programming you are looking for, if you want just free to air programming then a Pansat or other DVB will do you fine, if you want DCII free programming and subscription programming digital and analog then you will want a 4dtv, I would recommend both, and also upgrading the dish to a dual band feedhorn and c/ku lnb's.

Here are the best deals on the 4dtv:

Here are highly recommended places to find DVB and other big dish parts:

Also anyone here should be able to help you, maybe one is local for you also:

tdti1, if I want only FTA then a can go with any DVB receiver that is what you are saying right? Like PanSat 2700?

Also, if I change the LNB and the Feedhornd for a C/Ku,,, Just by doing that I can also get the C/Ku ?? not need to change anything else? Same receiver being DVB will get C/Ku programming?

Also, when I get this receiver if it is DVB it will move my 10 foot dish using my mover right? Or there are DVB receiver that do not do that?

It would be good to get a cheap old analog receiver off ebay, or getting a 4dtv to move the dish, like this you will be able to get many analog wild feeds, and if you want you can sub to programming, with a DVB unit like the 2700A if you do not want a 4dtv or a old IRD, there is I think it's called a V-box or something like that, this box will allow the DVB to power the arm to move the dish, also a good thing about the Pansat is it has the ability to control the servo motor, so you will not need to have it slave if you do not want to.

Yes you will get both c/ku on the 2700A, if you upgrade the feed.

This is how your conection would look if you slave the DVB off a 4dtv or ond analog only IRD:

Tdti1, How can I know if a receiver X from ebay will move my dish??? They all say is for C band, but how do I know they will move the dish and if they also work for FTA Mpeg 2 which is what I want????

Well if you only want DVB fta programming then a Pansat 2700a with a V-box or whatever there called :) will work fine, but if you also want free analog and the ability to sub a la carte then a analog unit will work fine, and you will just need to slave the Pansat to the analog IRD. Any old analog box should move the dish, Toshiba, Drake, GI, Star trek, Chapparal, and also many others.

OK, sorry for my ignorance. Yes I want only FTA programming. now you say if I want also analog??

Is FTA and Analog different? Or by getting for example the 2700 will I be able by moving my dish to get all possible C-band FTA and Analog?

So, then the Pansat 2500A is better than the Pansat 2700a as I can get analog and DBV with the 2500A. Right?

FTA is digital programming, and you can use a Fortec, Pansat, etc for that
Analog is C-Band analog..need an old C-Band receiver (or 4DTV) for that

no
the 2500, 2700 & 3500 are pretty much the same unit
2700 is faster than the 2500
3500 has a few more features than the 2700

With any of these 3, you can get the free DIGITAL stuff that is out there. The FTA area has that info

Analog will not be able to be picked up on that box. You need an old analog C-Band recever or 4DTV for that.

You will need an analog reciever or vbox to control/move the dish. A vbox takes commands from a diseqc compatable DVB reciever and controls the movement of the dish instead of using an analog reciever.

You will also need a DVB reciever to view digital FTA. So basically you are looking at buying 2 pieces of equipment, a dish mover (either the analog reciever or the vbox) and a DVB reciever. For DVB recievers i recommend the pansat 2700 or the 3500, they have all the features you will want.
