Well, it looks like we will continue to play with C-band without interference!

Decision Secures C-Band Future?
Support from national administrations, the communications user community, and the global satellite industry has resulted in a decision to preserve C-band spectrum for the interference-free delivery of fixed and mobile satellite services. The announcement was made last week during the final hours of the month-long ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The demonstration of support was in response to a recent proposal to have satellite spectrum globally identified by WRC-07 for terrestrial international mobile telecommunications (IMT), which includes WiMAX. The C-band frequency involved (3.4 to 4.2 GHz) is commonly utilized by satellite operators throughout the world to support disaster relief, distance learning, tele-medicine, broadcasting, cellular, and many other applications.

According to groups at the WRC, operation of WiMAX in the C-band has repeatedly been shown to cause severe interference to satellite services.

"The national administrations' decision to protect the satellite user community from terrestrial interference is a major milestone," said Matt Botwin, Chairman, GVF Regulatory Working Group. "WRC-07 has now confirmed that these bands are not globally harmonized for IMT, and that the application of rigorous protections in the band will be required."

During the conference, a limited number of administrations were in favor of identification for IMT in portions of the C-band. While those nations have been identified in an "opt-in footnote," WRC-07 further restricted IMT, specifying requirements for the protection of existing and future satellite services in the band, including trans-border protection.

The nine organizations of the coalition include: the Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC), the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA), the European Satellite Action Plan Regulatory Group (SAP-REG), the European Satellite Operators Association (ESOA), GVF, the Informal Satellite Operators Group, the Satellite Industry Association (SIA), the Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group (SUIRG), and the World Teleport Association (WTA).

Thanks, Brian.

A very timely bit of news.
Now, maybe I'll have a chance to get onto C-band in my lifetime.

Great News!

C band is great if you like sports backhauols and have an FTA HD receiver; good stuff on other satellites also.
