Can I 722 1000.2/129 AND DP500 110/119?

How's that for a topic title?

I was posting a question in the other forum but I realized I was in the wrong area so I want to pose the question here.

I HAD a 501 on a DP 500 antenna. The Hard Drive in the 501 died.

I bought a 1000.2 antenna and a 722K.

I took down the old 500 and stuck the 1000.2 on the mount.

I EVENTUALLY got the thing working but my 129 is lame. 35ish on the signal meter. Cuts out at every opportunity.

Should I....

A: tweak the skew. (My 119 is 81-84)
or
B: Can I hang my old DP500 and use it for 119 and turn the 1000.2 somehow to get a more solid 129?

If it is B how do i do it. Do I point the 1000.2 at 129 and loop the dp500 into the extra LNB on the 1000. If so do I still run the TWO coax from 722 to port 1 and 2 on the 1000? (I did not use that DPP separator when I installed the 722)

Thanks

Mark

Also can someone explain this. My LNBs always say 119 on one port and 110 on the other but I run one cable, hook it to the 119 and the dish 'sees' both 119 and 110. I figure there is a built in switch but if that is so why do they list them as separate?

I would go with the 1000.2. Go to dishpointer.com (link at the top of the page). You will need to put in your zip code and the Dish you are using, this will give you the proper settings for the Dish.

I would also check the elevation and azimuth for 129 in your area. It is possible you could be clipping a tree. Elevation for 129 in eastern Ohio is probably in the low twenties.

Thanks for the reply. I did go to that site. Amazing. Actually zoomed in on my house and stuck the pointer right where dish is. Then used the obstacle thingy. No problems there. I am on top of a very big hill.

taking into account the ground falling away the nearest tree would have to be over 100 feet tall. Which it isn't.
I really think in my current config the skew is off a bit. at least that is my hope.

But you were right 129 in my area is 22 degrees. BUT when I tell it 1000.2 it jumps to 29.1 degrees. I know this is the reason for the oblong dish and the skew. (Or I should say I think).

You are exactly right about the oblong shape and the skew. 110 and 119 come in at a higher elevation. The elevation on the 1000.2 is set somewhere around the middle so that it can catch all three satellites. And the azimuth is set to point at 119 more or less because it is almost dead center between 110 and 119.

to skew or not to skew

The dish screen won't give the right skew for a 1000.2 give us your zip and we will get it to you. yes the switch is built into the 1000.2 ports 1,2 & 3 all see all three birds. But by default they will switch to 119, 110 and 129 when using simple pointing equipment. The key is to lock onto 129 and then maximize the signal only of you have the skew right however, otherwise you will crater on 110. Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

My zipcode is 43932
and for you lurkers...

Lat 40.4921
Lon -80.7830

But to back up, you don't think I would be ahead to use two dishes to split the 110/119 from the 129?

Thanks!

I would probably just go with the 1000.2. If you go with a two dish solution you will need to use your old 500 Dish for 110 & 119 with a DPP Twin and another 500 Dish with a single/dual to point at 129. The single/dual would have a coax running into the input on the DPP Twin. From that you could either use a separator with 1 line or keep the two lines that you already have.

As long as you have line of site somewhere for all three sats I would just keep with the 1000.2.

Sk should be 125*, and the EL should be set on 30*. Unless you've got a LOS problem you should be pulling in around a 70 (or higher) on the 129* Tr 21. Take note though we have been getting .2s that have the EL marks stamped wrong on them. I have had to set them as high as 34* just to get a signal off them.
