Sorry for the double post in the DVR section. That was a mistake.

I'm new here and search didn't come up with anything.

I upgraded my HD receiver 6 months ago so it came with a 2-year contract, so I have 1 1/2 year left before I can cancel the service. I'll be moving to an apartment soon and they only have cable network. No dish installation allow, and not even the one sticking to the pole like I've seen sometimes. Is there a way for me to get out of the remaining 1 1/2 year contract without fee?

with fee? Sure, 12.50 per month in contract. If you are looking for a way without a fee, you might find out if you can get a tripod, or see if you can suspend your service until you move out.

The apartment complex cannot prevent you from installing a dish (within certain guidelines).

See this document for details.
FCC Fact Sheet on Placement of Antennas

Only in areas within his apartment or under his exclusive control, so if he's facing the South and can put it on a pole of his balcony or through a window he's ok, but if he's facing the North or has to mount it to the roof or external side of the building he's pretty much at the mercy of the landlord!

He maybe at the mercy of the landlord if he chooses an apartment without a view but being under contract it is his responsibility to try and find an apartment with the needed view. Sorry you agreed to the contract so you need to pay, be thankful it isn't the new penalty that just started it is now $20/mo.

Directv dose not hold people to contracts if they cant bring them service so in short you should be able to get out of your contract. You will need proof however that you cant get it, most times they just send a installer and if he states he cant get a signal they will void the contract, you do have to jump a few hoops first though.

Hello,
dont think this is as big a deal as some make it out to be.
If you call and explain you are moving and service is not available (this you may have to prove) i would bet that directv would be willing to work with you. You would of course have to return yur equipment.
good luck

Account on hold

Last year I was still with a year left of contract and I wanted to cancel. They gave me the option of putting the account on hold and there were no fees with that.
