can separators be used

I am curious, can separators be used with any other dish besides the 1000? I know they do not work with DP34 switches. can they be used with any other switches, can they be used for dish 500's?
 
You can put the DPP on a Dish 500 and put a DP lnbf on a Dish 300 or put up two Dish 500's with one having the DPP twin and the other with a DP twin. Connect up one port from the other dish to the third port on the DPP twin and voila. The same thing as a Dish1000.
