Can we cut down on SD PPV?

Here's an idea for DISH to save some bandwidth. How about we take it easy on SD PPV channels. I'm looking at my guide and I counted 21 HD PPV channels versus 32 SD PPV. And some of those movies on the SD PPV are getting a bit old to be on PPV at all like "The Last Exorcism" and "Megamind" I don't think the SD subs would mind as much if the SD PPV channels get cut down a little. To me it should be the same amount of PPV for each format, either 21 for each or even it up to about 25 each. (although I'm sure it would do more harm than good, based on the amount of bandwidth left)

I'm sure that Dish knows how many people are renting HD and SD movies and if the demand for HD rises and the demand for SD drops, they will adjust the proportion of channels to meet the demand.

They would take them down if people were not using them... but they are making money with them so they remain.

Personally I think DISH's PPV prices are WAY too high.

They ought to make them a $1 to compete with Redbox. They would probably make more money that way. A ton more people would rent them. May have to take away the ability to DVR them but it's only a $1 anyway.

I agree. If they could be archived that would make a difference. But since they are HD not Blue-ray quality, and can't be kept, price seems about $2 to $3 too high. I only get them with free coupons.

DISH is the HIGHEST for vods in the industry. I shudder to think what kind of Fee they will charge for Blockbuster streaming once DISH gets it up and running for DISH subs.

I don't get the extra $1 fee for ordering from the dish website rather than by remote...must be some data collection going on in those receivers

Same as Dish's $6.i99 PPV movies, Direct must have subscribers or they would drop them. I remember when Disney said they would never put their classic cartoon movies on dvd. Now you can buy them anytime. Also, movie producers claimed dvds were going to put movie theaters out of business and they are still making big bucks.

DVD's sure killed the video stores tho

How did DVDs kill the video stores? I don't think that DVDs had anything to do with the downfall of the video stores. I think it was the mix of Redbox (and similar) and other deliver methods (PPV, streaming, Netflix, etc.) that killed the video stores.

Dish lowered the VOD price to .99 on a few titles for a few days last summer in an apparent experiment to gauge interest at the lower price. From the feedback in a thread here, it was pretty popular...
