I canceled my 90 year old mothers Dish account today. Two years without Yankee games was the reason.
I know they send the box to return the receiver. I forgot to ask about the Powerline Phone Connector they installed because of no phone jack in the room with the receiver.
Must this be returned?

Thanks for the replies. Of course when the TW guy was there today to do the cable install he told my mother that Dish will say the receiver was not returned and she would be responsible for the replacement cost.

Keep the shipping receipt for at least 6 mo. More than one receiver has gone missing in DISH's warehouse.

Dish tracks lnb's but not switches and remotes.
Just one more thing. The CS guy did say something about returning the lnb,(really hard to understand him) I told him I had no way to get it down from the roof on a two story house in the middle of winter.
I'm sure he said that it was ok to leave it.

Standard operating procedure. Makes it all be better if you or the next homeowner returns to Dish.

Someone should sue Dish if they say to remove lnb's(and actually does it under CSR's instructions) and they have a terrible accident on the rooftop.

Yea, im waiting for the day to see that story make the news.

Seriously, returning the LNB and paying for the return shipping is no more than Dish gouging the customer because they cancelled the service.

#1 If you move, and you request a Dishmover, does Dish require that you go on your roof and send back the LNB?

#2 If you decided to deactivate a receiver on your account and request a box to send it back, Does Dish charge for the return shipping?

Lets not piss off an active customer that is paying their bill every month and make them climb on their roof if they want a Dish mover, or pay for shipping to return a receiver they no longer want. However if the customer is cancelling, its ok to charge them?

BTW, they will waive the LNB charge if you complain. The fact of the matter is that people send the receivers back every day not knowing what the LNB is or realizing they have to climb on their roof to return it. Then they just get a final bill in the mail and the LNB and or shipping charge just eats up any credit they may have coming back, or the customer just goes ahead and pays it.

Don't consider this an Anti-Dish post. I have never agreed with this policy.

I don't think I've ever heard of there being an issue if you don't return it. I did when I left in 08 because I had access to it. If you're not comfortable removing the LNB or it's in a dangerous place then forget it. I wouldn't worry and I think it's stupid they ask for this.

That is just Charlie being cheap and wanting to save any money he can on the install. Then they recycle the lnb to the next sub. Everyone that has covered Charlie Ergen in the press knows he pinches a penny so hard it screams. That is how he become a billionaire. The plus for DISH is that they can cause a little retribution to churning subs.

I know many wealthy folks who are the same. That may be one of the biggest reasons why they're wealthy :D

Standard procedure for the account specialist you talk to when you cancel your account is for them to ask if you can get to your LNB without climbing on anything. If so, they'll ask for it back, if you say you cannot get to it, they'll tag the account and you will not be charged for not returning the LNB. That said, I know better than to believe that all the account specialists are doing their job properly.

It's not about how much money you make, it's how much you keep.

I once want to cancel Dish since my favorite channel went to Direct and Cable TV and worry about climbing up to get the LNB. There is no way to get it since the installer did a bad choice installing the Dish very badly (high high high) and a few technician did some work on my Dish complaining how the first installer was such a dummy.

You are correct. A whole lot of people make a ton of money in their lifetimes, few manage to save much of it to become rich... How many athletes make millions playing and are broke 3 years after they leave the pros? Most go bankrupt....

Here is a story, for some reason my LNB on my account was waived about a year ago. That is great and all but I never cancelled my service and never stopped using that LNB until last month when I switched over to the eastern arc.
