Hello, I am hope some one can help a Newbie out.

I just purchased a FTA system with a Captive Works 650s receiver, a 31" dish and a Captive Works universal LNB.

For some reason I cannot get the signal meter on the receiver to work right. Every time I plug in the LNB the meter shows 68% with 0% quality no matter where I point the dish. Never any more or less. I have even taken the LNB off the dish and the Receiver still shows 68% signal. The only way the meter will Zero out is if I disconnect the LNB. I have tried another LNB and got the same result.

I live in Huachuca City, AZ

I Have tried pointing at 123 and 121 with no luck.

I have set up Direct tv systems before so I am pretty sure I have the dish set correctly, but without the signal meter working there is no way to be shure.

any help would be great.

it is normal for the meter to show strengh always as long as the LNB is conected and the settings properly configured. it just tells you that the conection to the LNB is ok. it is a measure of the voltage that gets to the LNB. you want to aim the dish using the quality meter then. be patiente , extremly patiente , and move the dish just a bit from east to west starting in the aprox bearings then move up the elev 1 or 2 degrees and repeat , beleive me you will find the signal but it takes time specially the first time.

DBS sytems like Direct TV use a very strong transmitting power and Dishes are smaller therefore they are easier to aim. this KU FTA signals are more dificult to get.

I'm not sure how good the meter on a CW receiver is, but take your receiver and a small TV out to the dish. This makes aiming a dish much easier. Move the dish in VERY small increments, stopping momentarily between moves to let the meter refresh. Don't trust the stamped elevation scale on the dish mount, they're often off by 5 or more degrees.

Keep in mind the the receiver's Quality Meter is not a "Satellite Meter"
Think on the Quality Meter as a Transponder Meter.
You must have a Hot Transponder selected in the receiver's setup menu.
For example, if you are trying for 123 west, you should have 11720 or 11800 selected from the TP list. You could be aimed dead on a Sat, but if the TP is not active, you will see no Quality.

Did you use www.Dishpointer.com to get the proper Elevation, Azimuth, and LNB Skew?
How do you have the LNB set up in the receiver?
If the LNB is a Universal, make sure you have the correct L.O. entered in the setup menu.
Low L.O. - 9750
High L.O. - 10600
