GAINESVILLE - Charter Communications' new spokesman told the Gainesville City Council Thursday it is fine-tuning its cable TV system in the city in the wake of last winter's ice storm.

Communications Director Skip James promised customers are going to see a big difference in the way Charter responds to complaints and provides customer service.

"Talking to the customer is what we're going to focus on and address their problems and get them fixed," James said.

City Manager Bryan Shuler said customers had plenty of problems following last Decem

ber's ice storm and it was "pure frustration” with Charter trying to communicate with the company to get service restored.

James said his company, under recent management reorganization, is looking for the shortcomings, including what to do about Internet service failure and drop out.
