Despite backing from Shaw & Star Choice; Telesat lost the bid to Ciel to get these slots in the Industry Canada new spectrum allocations: Ciel get 7 slots; Telesat 5

Ciel 1 will be equipped with 32 extended band transponders which can be instantaneously switched to Ku frequencies to act as a backup to the ku portion of Anik F2.

Hope this means that Ciel 1 will have the same footprint as F2 ku transponders.
