The boxes likely to cost 60 to 75 each would improve the quality of the transmissions and reduce customer defections Roberts told investors and analysts at a conference in Pasadena Calif. Comcast which has 21.5 million cable-TV subscribers and other cable operators want to expand their digital offerings to compete with DirecTV Group Inc. and EchoStar Communications Corp.
