Was on Dish SD, went to cable HD, planning on going back to Dish HD. Now have TV with built-in HD tuner.

Definitely want to watch one channel, while recording another.
Recording in HD would be nice, but not necessary.
Which Dish DVR box do I need for the HD TV set?

Second set, can be single turner DVR.
Which Dish DVR box do I need for a second SD TV set?

Currently dish has the 921 & 942 HD DVR's. Dual HD recording.

Non-DVR HD recievers are the 6000 & 811.

2nd set - single tuner DVRs are the 501, 508, 510 (same models just larger hard drives).

The 942 is a dual tuner DVR it has 1 HDTV tuner and 1 SD tuner it will fullfill your needs if DISH will lease it to you it will cost $250 upfront. If you have to buy it it will cost $700.

You're HALF-right. The 942 has TWO HD-capable satellite tuners, plus ONE ATSC (digital off-air) tuner. That's 3 incoming HD streams (although don't expect the box to be happy trying to use them all at once).

The 942 has ONE HD output and ONE SD output. Both of them will process either HD or SD content, live or recorded. The SD output will downrez HD content for you.
