Component thru the receiver

Currently, I have my DISH 622 hooked directly to my Pioneer Plasma via Component. The sound is hooked up to a 5.1 receiver (Onkyo) via Optical. What is the advantage of hooking up the 622 via the component in on the reciever and then running the component out on the receiver to the Pioneer? Currently, the picture is fab. I'm just curious about what the advantages of routing through the receiver are.

The only advantage is if you have multiple components connected to the TV and do not want to have to switch inputs on the TV. If you run through the receiver it does the switching for you.

Running things through your receiver adds more connection points and potential places for signal degredation. Most recommend running from point A to point B when possible.

Thanks for the reply. I like the A to B theory as well. It seems to me that in a previous set up, I had trouble getting things to switch properly when run through the receiver. Besides, now I am using a harmony remote that does the swithcing for me. I love that remote.
