Full-time RVer
I am a new customer for HD on DirecTV, and have a question.

For background: I am a full-time Rver, and have had an RV waiver for Distant Network Service in effect for several years. I just bought a new RV with HD TVs, so upgraded my DirecTV service to include the HD services. I upgraded to two HD receivers and a 3 LNB dish. I get HD channels (ESPN, TNT, etc) in the channel 70+ area, and the East & West DNS feeds (not HD) around channel 360. I also have channel listings for the East/West feeds in HD on the channel guide around channel 80, but do not receive them. When I go to the HD DNS channels I get message 721; saying that I haven’t purchased the channel.

Over the weekend I decided to see what would be involved in trying to get the DNS feeds in HD. When I called DirecTV the sales rep checked, and said that I could not get them with my current dish, because the DNS HD signals are on satellite 103, which my dish doesn’t pick up. He said that I would have to upgrade to a 5 LNB dish in order to get them. He then transferred me to a DNS specialist who was supposed to tell me more about upgrading.

However, when I was transferred to the DNS specialist I got a totally different story. She said that the sales rep I spoke to was wrong, and that the DNS HD feeds were on a satellite that I currently use, and the only reason that I did not have the service was that a second RV waiver, for HD services, was required. She said that she would submit the waiver and I should hear something in 45 days.

Can anyone shed any light on which of these I should believe?

Thanks.

Roger S.

You can believe the second CSR. The HD DNS channels are MPEG2, in the 80s and are on the 101, 110 and 119 satellites, so you can get them with your current setup. What I can't say is how much longer that will be true... it could be one year, it could be two, but at one point, all HD will go to MPEG4 on the Ka/Ku satellites.
