Good Day,

Cox is just becoming too expensive and I am now looking at alternative options. I have considered Dish, Moxi DVR (with Cox), Directv, and a few others. So far, it looks like Directv would be my best option.

With Cox, I am able to connect a HD DVR to a standard television (using coax) and watch all the HD channels - it simply downconverts the signal. This is very important because my son loves animal planet HD, discovery HD etc - but he only has a coax feed in his room.

Will this be possible with Directv? I understand that the DTV HD box does not have coax out, but the standard box does? So, can the standard box pick up the HD channels and simply downconvert them like Cox?

And second, using the multi-room dvr feature, can a HD recording be played through a standard receiver - again downconverting the signal so it can be played through the coax?

Thanks

If the sons TV is SD, get a SD box for his room.

The HD recvr will give you an option to view the channel in HD or SD, so you can watch the SD channel on his TV.

And second, using the multi-room dvr feature, can a HD recording be played through a standard receiver - again downconverting the signal so it can be played through the coax?
